I only knew her for a short time and it was only through email correspondence and in discussion groups. She and I shared liberal views and had a number of discussions on various issues of public policy. I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the members of her family.

Even though Richard is more known for his bad jokes, he penned this poem in honor of Barbara. Guiding light. The stars pulse with rhythm with my soul the tides ebb and flow with the roaring of my blood I throw my life to the winds of fate and watch creation unfolding hoping that I am strong enough and praying that I am pure enough to hold heaven in my heart and love the whole world opening my soul to the stars and unlocking the universe inside my spirit turns inside out exploding like the sun to finally set me free as I travel the heavens as a guiding light of love
