My first memory of meeting Alex involved quail eggs, which she loved and wanted me to love as much as her. We had a very detailed discussion of the pros and cons of them, and of eggs more generally... and while I remained unconvinced I marveled at her sweetness and seriousness in considering all the points in our dialogue! I know what a special place she will always hold in the hearts of the Grussing 6, and know that after being sad for your loss... that I will always smile at the thought of her looking after all of you from across the fields... with much love, Libby Chambers

Dearest Kate, John, Charlotte, Max and Maddie My love and thoughts are with you at this tender time. Her determination and sincerity were exeptional. I will miss her Christmas cards and random facebook messages:) Thinking of you and wishing you moments of peace and comfort as you remember Alex who was so remarkable girl. Kettering and Cotterstock memories - we had to try out the „Blitz Cafe" next to Alex‘ church in Kettering before the beautiful service this morning. Alex has found the perfect resting place with a wonderful view across the fields towards the mill - keeping a close eye on her loving family. Thank you for making it such a special day Kate, Jon, Charlotte, Max and Maddie - Alex will be so proud of how perfectly you organised everything for her! Love from all the Stheemans

To the Grussings: It is hard to know what to do or say when confronted by genuine tragedy. Perhaps the best I can offer is the words from the Queen, when she said "Grief is the price we pay for love". As time goes by, I hope the grief we all feel - but your family especially - will be a reminder of how deeply she was loved and cared for by so many. That she was able to thrive and ultimately live independently (which she took enormous pride in) is a powerful and enduring tribute to you all. As her uncle, I will treasure the memories of the deep delight and enthusiasm she brought to family celebrations and her friendships. No one I've ever met could light up a room like she could. She had tremendous spirit and resilience. May we all keep some of that spirit in the years ahead as our memory of her.

Dear Kate and Jon, I'm so very saddened to hear of Alex's passing and share my condolences with you and her siblings. As a young(ish) teacher at Centre Academy, I had the pleasure of spending many hours with Alex each day. I can honestly say we both learnt so much - Alex taught me about compassion, resilience and determination. Alex always wanted to do her best. I have fond memories of her time at the school. Sending you love, and may she rest in peace. David Anthony

Dearest Kate, Jon, Charlotte, Maddie and Max... It has taken me a few days to gather the words to send to you after the unimaginable, devastating news of Alex's departure from this world. We are sending you all our love and positive energy in these moments so incredibly sad and unjust. Alex was such an inspiration for all of those that had the pleasure to cross paths with her and her ability to live independently is also an inspiration for many other children that had the same health condition, as well as for their parents. Alex's inquisitive mind, extraordinary sense of humor and joie de vivre will remain always in our memories. I have memories of her at the beach house in Galicia, going up and down the stairs, so excited!!!! Know that you all have been constantly on my mind since I learnt of the news and I have prayed to God constantly to give you the ability to find some kind of comfort in your memories together and that your incredibly strong family bonds give you the courage to continue your life without her in this physical world. I was listening to Eric Clapton playing Tears in Heaven, a song he composed after the untimely death of his son. Immediately my thoughts were with you. Listening to the song that has given me the courage to write a note in this beautiful memorial. "Would you know my name? If I saw you in heaven Would it be the same? If I saw you in heaven I must be strong And carry on 'Cause I know I don't belong Here in heaven Would you hold my hand? If I saw you in heaven Would you help me stand? If I saw you in heaven I'll find my way Through night and day 'Cause I know I just can't stay Here in heaven Time can bring you down Time can bend your knees Time can break your heart Have you begging please Begging please Beyond the door There's peace, I'm sure And I know there'll be no more Tears in heaven I am of the strong belief that our loved ones neve leave us - they become our guardians and guides from above and that we continue to communicate with them. I am certain that Alex will accompany you throughout this journey of life. We are embracing you with our love and a big hug. Sagra, Ian, Isabel and Olivia
