I was privileged and delighted to call Adrienne my Aunt for about 25 years, since she became my Uncle Bob's beloved partner. She was always stylish and poised but genuinely warm and solicitous, and was a lovely great-aunt to my kids. She attributed her demeanor to having attended finishing school, and that's an appropriate term since she is the complete package! The most generous role she played in our lives was taking special care of ailing Bob, even when he could no longer express his appreciation for her. My family is quite small to begin with, so without Adrienne it is - immensely smaller. I know this photo is blurry but I like it.

November 2020, It was such a privilege to spend time with you all remembering your mom. I believe she died soon after RBG, and I remember reflecting on the commonalities of these two amazing women. Both were incredibly strong, and full of life, and deeply connected to (and loved by) their family and friends. Although RBG had a bigger stage, your mom's impact in her own world was equally profound. I would love to get together post pandemic to celebrate and appreciate her in person! Julie Bower

sent November 2022 Dear Melissa, I am speechless and so very sad. I last heard from your Mom in May, but no hint of what was to come. We shared the same June 13 birth date and were looking forward to that and wondering how it would be celebrated in Covid times. I know that you and your sisters were such a central part of her life, and it always seemed to work the other way, too, so no words of mine will bring any comfort or solace for your great loss. Your Mom was a most special person, with the energy and attitude to take her through many more years, so this is a shock and a tragedy as well. My condolences to you and your sisters. Do stay well and keep her sparkle and spirit alive, Richard Ross

November 2020 I spoke (and wept) with your sister a few weeks back - I truly loved your mother. She always had a smile for me and was curious to know how things were going in my life. She loved you and your sibs so much and she always made sure I knew exactly what was going on in each of your lives, even though you and I rarely speak. My mother loved her too, very much. She loved her quick wit and tough interior, even though she looked like an angel on the outside. She loved an adventure, a long hike, a good story and was always supportive of me, always. I also recall how she would occasionally text me after a successful JPL mission - to share in the joy of its success. Even though my role at JPL is largely administrative in nature, she always made me feel like I was the Chief Scientific Engineer. I hate this planet a little bit without her on it, but I will never forget her - I sing her name at the top of my lungs!!!! I LOVE AND MISS YOU CANDY!!! She is always with me and I am so much the better for it. I'm looking forward to seeing you and all our Macha peeps soon. Gene Perry

sent November 2020 Dearest Melissa, I am so devastated, at the news from Grier, than your amazing Mom has passed. Her death was exactly one month to the day after my husband died on August 23rd.. I had attempted to call Candy several times but she was not able to carry on a conversation at that time, she was having breakfast. I want you to know how much her Grier sister's loved her. We are a very close group of girls from all over the country. Your Mom was one of the best ever. I am sending you and your family my most sincere condolences. Having just lost my husband of 57 years I do know how you feel. It is the most exhausting time when you are one of the caregivers but being with her until the end is most rewarding. Thanks be to God her pain and sickness are over.😢😢 Sally Griffith Cooper. Charlotte, N.C.

sent November 2020. Dear Holly, I hope that you have heard from most of the Grier "sisters" who all loved Candy. Our memories of being at Grier are so strong and so vivid that I can almost put myself back at school, running to the barn, riding with your mother, and laughing at stupid jokes or things we did. Our childhood there was amazing and it gave us a bond that is incredible. My husband and my daughter were amazed at the closeness and the love and support given to me by my Grier "sisters" when my brother was dying a few years ago. Yes, we are an amazing group who really love and care for each other. I don't believe there is another Grier class of young ladies who have been so devoted as ours. I cherish each and every one of them. Our reunions are so much fun, we immediately revert to a bunch of 15 and 16 year olds and never stop laughing. I wish I could think of the names of the two ladies your mother introduced us to in NM last year in October. They could have easily been Grier girls - just the type - attractive, very down to earth, and loquacious! Here is a picture of us at Santa Fe, L-R: Janet (Harton) Von Twistern, me, Candy, Gail Malcolm. Gail and I were roommates our senior year and Mr. Grier told us that "if it hadn't been for the two of us, we would have had the best graduating class in the last 10 years!" Gail and I were very mischievous! But a tad later, Mr. Grier said he hoped we would never change. We both gave him a hug. And… we are still the same! Give my best to your sisters and know that we are all mourning with you. Not seeing Candy at our next reunion (if the pandemic allows it!) will be a huge void. Vicki
