Mary Kathryn “Kathy” Hall died early June 30, 2024, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City, Michigan. She spent the previous week in good spirits, surrounded by family and friends.

Kathy was born May 30, 1951, in Evergreen Park, Illinois. She grew up in Munster, Indiana with her parents Keith and Margaret Long, and four brothers: James, Robert, Ronald, and William. Kathy had a passion for learning and loved being a student. In 1969, she began attending Indiana University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in History. During her time at IU, she became a dedicated Hoosier and a lover of college basketball. You could find her every March Madness glued to the TV shouting, “Go, go IU!”

After school, Kathy moved to Traverse City and became a certified public accountant. She served as Munson Home Health’s financial director for over two decades until she retired in 2021. Kathy led her team through several key changes, including Munson's acquisition of Mercy Home Care and Hospice in 2017. She took a lead role in this merger by combining billing teams and budgets. She was the financial lead on software changes and upgrades, always asking tough questions to ensure programs met the needs of Munson staff and patients. Kathy was hard-working: often the first one in the office and the last to leave. Her dedication ensured excellence, no matter how difficult or long a task took.

One of Kathy’s areas of focus was Munson Hospice House. She worked diligently to obtain financial support and approval for patients who could not afford room and board fees. She also worked with the Munson Healthcare Foundations to acquire grant money to sustain the Hospice House financially over the last several years.

In 1980, Kathy met Robert Patrick “Pat” Hall. Together, they purchased an abandoned house on Webster Street. The couple worked to renovate the property, eventually turning it into a home where they would marry and start a family. In 1991, the couple welcomed their daughter, Taylor Grace. Kathy was a dedicated, supportive, and loving wife and mother. She loved planning family trips, and some of her favorite destinations included California’s wine country, Disney World, and Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Few things brought her more joy than successfully executing a vacation.

Kathy was a lively person, full of determination and grit. She loved music, especially musicals, was an accomplished seamstress, and never attended a gathering without a good bottle of wine. In her last two years of life, Kathy spent most of her time talking about her twin grandsons, Benjamin and Keith Green. She was incredibly proud of both boys and worked continuously to foster their interests.

Kathy never feared what would come: she only worked to prepare her loved ones for life without her.

To honor Kathy’s memory, please make donations in her name, Mary Kathryn “Kathy” Hall, to Munson Healthcare Hospice and Palliative Care. You can give a gift through Munson Healthcare Foundations. Her family will host a celebration of life at their home on August 17, 2024 from 3 to 6 p.m.
