This past weekend, we honored Joy by planting this gorgeous Burr Oak memorial tree. It is located at the Arlington Tennis Center. How appropriate as Joy spent days of her life doing she loved, playing tennis. In her later years, she then got to watch her grandson, Jackson play tennis at this very place. The tree will be marked with a memorial stone that is in the works. In the years to come, it will provide shade and we hope you can come to visit, enjoy a picnic, and remember our dear Joy. Pastor Jim shared these verses as we planted the tree and I hope these can be an encouragement to you. God is present all throughout nature. This tree can be a place where you can come be close to Joy but also come and talk to the Lord. I pray you seek the Lord during times of joy and in times of mourning. He hears our cries and loves us deeply. Ecclesiastes 3:1-5 "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing" All our love, the Pollard family

Joy was a dear friend of my mother, Sarah Rowland. She and my mother worked together almost 30 years ago at UT Southwestern. She was the most incredible person, friend and spirit for my mom. My mom was very ill and battling breast cancer while working with Joy - and Joy made every day special and fun for my mother. I was so grateful for their friendship - and I know my mom has greeted her with wide arms and they are having a grand time again. No doubt having the fun and feisty one in your corner made every day an adventure!!

Joy was my mentor and trainer when I started UT. There was nothing that Joy couldn't do or fix. She gave me so much in so little time. She forced me love peaches and cottage cheese lol. I thought I didn't like cats but Joy made me embrace them. I now have a cat. She kept me laughing. But most importantly, Joy taught me to be fearless in life and live it. One memory that I have of Joy is from a typical lab day. We discovered that somehow wasps got into the building. Typical Joy breaks out with broom and a mission to rid the lab of killer wasps. She meant business and instructed us to toss out our small swatters. She was the joy of the lab. I will never forget her!😍

I was one of Ms. Joy's caregivers at the hospital. She was feisty and fun! I fell in love with her and her kids. I am sorry for your loss but rejoice in a life lived to the fullest.
