Tim Hopton
February 13th, 1964 - July 12th, 2020
February 13th, 1964 - July 12th, 2020
Tim Hopton, of Halifax, born in New Glasgow in 1964, passed away on July 12, 2020.
Tim was loved and cherished by many. He is survived by his mother, Jean (MacKenzie) Hopton and his daughter Aliya Moore. His father was Kenneth Hopton, an RCAF vet who died in 1996.
Tim was a long-time IT tech at Dalhousie University.
He wanted his epitaph to be “It didn't make me stronger.” Many of us feel that way, but he said it.
Here is another quote: “Don't worry about the big stuff. Keep it small. Just strive to be the happiest turd in the bowl.”
His sometimes cranky, bitter, sarcastically-witted, yet very resourceful exterior masked a funny, intelligent, kind-hearted, loyal, talk-your-ear-off friend.
Tim was an extremely talented graphic artist and respected musician, a computer geek, an enthusiastic cook, and a political junkie. And that’s just the surface.
Deeply cared for and deeply missed by friends and family.
All of Tim’s friends would especially like to thank Colleen Gerritts for her patience and help.
Tim... Wherever you are, we hope you have finally realized your worth. Play them a tune, sing them a song, draw them a picture – and JERK DUCKS be damned!
Donations in Tim’s name can be made to the Red Cross – they went above and beyond the call of duty. Also the VON.
One last quote: “Rock and Roll for the Hell of it.”
A private burial took place on July 23 at Lorne Street Cemetery in New Glasgow.

I was wondering about Tim and where he was, so I googled him and now I'm here writing to his memory. Its been 14 years now since I saw him last. I worked with him. I cherished the exchanges about politics and news I had with him. I knew he was a musician but he didn't let on at all. I wish I could call him up now and ask him how relieved he is that Trump is out. Im sure I'd get an ear-full and grammar corrections on my comments to boot. He did not let a language mistake go and God bless him for it, not that he had much love for the ethereal LOL. Nova Scotian to me, Tim. Rest in peace man, you're sadly missed. I can't believe I missed the chance to check on you and see how you were doing.

Dude, we miss you!

You were much more than this obit says you were. You downplayed it...even called yourself a hack...but you were 'indeed' a very good guitar player...keyboard player...and finally bass player... You were an artist (I always held out hope you would do a caricature of me...but we ran outta time)... a great cook... and most of all...I will miss your sarcastic wit and trading barbs as we argued over whatever. I...We...will miss you Tim. We won't forget you...because you sir...are truly... unforgettable. You were much more than this obit says you were.
