Yoko Hosaka

 

Yoko Kiuchi was born in 1927 to parents Kuma and Shinzo Kiuchi in Alameda, CA. In common Japanese tradition (Kibei), she was sent to Japan to be schooled at the age of 9. Yoko returned to the US after WWII. She graduated from Girls High School of San Francisco in 1949. 

 

In San Francisco, Yoko and Mitsuo Hosaka met and were married in 1950. Together they raised 4 children: Dennis, Sharon, Emy and Jane in the Richmond District of San Francisco.

 

Yoko worked in accounting for 16 years at Kraft Foods and she retired in 1992. Previously, she worked part time at the family’s restaurant, Bush Garden.

 

She enjoyed Japanese Flower Arranging (Ikebana), traveling (especially to Japan), gardening, cooking, visiting with family and friends and entertaining. She was the consummate hostess and always made sure guests were well taken care of. First and foremost, she was a devoted, loving mother and wife. 

 

Yoko is survived by her children Dennis, Sharon, Emy, Jane and son-in-law Sebastien, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitsuo.
