William Bill Melvin Knapp

William (Bill) Melvin Knapp, 58, of Old Greenwich, CT died on May 18, 2019 after a ferocious fight with metastatic kidney cancer. He was born on April 23, 1961 in Maison City, Iowa to Robert Harry Knapp and Colleen Flatness Knapp. Bill grew up in Des Moines and graduated Magna cum laude with a BS in Economics and as an Outstanding Senior in Economics, from Drake University. He then completed MS and PhD degrees in Economics from University of Wisconsin in Madison. Bill had a successful, 20-year career in finance as a senior investment professional working at New York Life Investment Management, The Northern Trust Company, and Citigroup Asset Management, among others. During this time he lived in Tokyo, London, Chicago, New York, and Stamford. He also taught undergraduate and graduate courses in finance, microeconomics, and statistics at the University of Madison-Wisconsin, University of Illinois at Chicago, Northwestern University, and Carnegie Mellon University. After marrying Maja Djukic, in 2013, Bill settled in Old Greenwich, CT to assume a full-time position as a chief family officer - aka stay at home dad, a caretaker. Bill excelled in his new role. A devoted and doting father to Olivia, Oskar, and Vivian, Bill enjoyed playing with his children, making home-cooked meals, and e-shopping for the latest and greatest eco-friendly, smart design toys and clothes. A loving and loyal dad, husband, and friend, Bill's biggest talent was that of being content, just spending time with his loved ones, while enjoying a few fine bites on the side. He was a veracious reader, with a particular like for historical sci-fi. A man of few words, but with countless acts of kind, sweet, and thoughtful gestures, Bill's quiet, gentle way for those around him will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Bill is survived by his children, Olivia (14), Oskar (4), and Vivian (2), wife Maja, sister Jill, and brother Stephen.
