With profound sorrow, I received the news of the passing of Oren Nahari – may his memory be blessed – one of Israel's foremost journalists and media figures. Just a few days ago, I wished him well during his broadcast in his final program. For decades, Oren opened a window to the wider world for all of us, and he did so with rare talent, curiosity, professionalism and an open heart.

A wise and brave journalist. A broad-minded intellectual with vast knowledge. A man of the wider world who loved this country with all his heart and grieved over what was happening in it. A man of public broadcasting. May his memory be a blessing. May he and those like him be a source of inspiration for Israeli media.

Oren had an extraordinary ability to teach, but above all, to convey one fundamental message: the most thing is knowing how to tell a story. There is an audience for it. Whenever he began telling you about an event, the depth of his knowledge, the details he knew, and the connections he drew would always leave you with your jaw hanging open.

He was one of the most prominent symbols of public broadcasting in Israel – from the days of the Israel Broadcasting Authority [IBA] to very recent days – in KAN News broadcasts on Reshet Bet. For years, Oren conveyed – with love, curiosity, talent and a sense of true journalistic mission – what was happening in the world to the listeners and viewers of public broadcasting.
