Scott was a visionary, leading the Shaw Agency to the present-day ShawHankins. He had a great balance of assertion and gentleness that made him a good negotiator and likable. I spent ten years cultivating a very rewarding relationship with him, for which I am extremely grateful for. Continued prayers for the Hankins & ShawHankins families. RIP Scott.

I was the first person Scott hired to work remotely. At that time the office was in Cartersville, a long drive from the South of Atlanta. I knew someone that worked for Scott at that time and she assured him I knew how to work from home. He never questioned me nor did he check up on me to make sure I was working. When he called, I always remember the way he first greeted you, "Hey, what you doing". I was warned when i was first hired (can't remember who told me this), that when Scott called you and asked you that, he really didn't want to know what you are doing. I guess this person must have told him about their entire day and went on and on, lol. That always came to my mind when he called. He really believed in the people that worked for him.

Scott had the rare ability to make everyone feel like they were the most important, the expert, the "winner". I think that was because he genuinely cared. As a client and as an employee, I always felt that Scott did his best for me - which, of course, was the best way to get me to do my best for him. When I think of Scott, the words that come to mind are "kind", "gracious" and "gentleman" - and I can't really think of a better compliment. What made me laugh most about Scott was how much he dreaded the annual Christmas party and how it exhausted him - - and yet he hid that and it was always a wonderful, fun, family-oriented event that reflected his spirit so well! To Ashley and all of Scott's family - you remain on our hearts and in our prayers. It's difficult for all of us that we can't share this time with you in person. Please know we are with you in spirit and in prayer. And, even with the sorrow, we know that Scott is healed now and we celebrate his life with you.

Scott was one of the first that I ever called on in group insurance 12 years ago. On the special occasions where I got to meet with Scott, I would take the long nervous walk from the Big White House across the parking lot to Scotts house/office. Scott seemed so intimidating to me at that time, but even through that he was always so gracious to me - he was always fair and honest and always made sure we were working to earn your attention, time and business. Because of this sort of transparency and integrity, ShawHankins and Scott actually were the first people to make me feel like what I did mattered in this business, and that has had a deep impact on me. Looking back I think it was so fitting that your office was out of those houses as Scott acted as sort of a father figure at the firm, I know that he mentored and cared after everyone that ever has worked there. One of the particular things that I'll miss most is those calls from Scott on my cell that I better not miss!! He would always be "leaving the client meeting" (literally, I could always here him driving) and he knew that he had me (or any other carrier rep) on pins and needles. He'd say something like "Zach… Scott Hankins….. just leaving the client at Douglas County... (his pauses always seemed like forever)…. Can you get a 6% rate cap on that dental?". He would almost always say something that he knew we could do, but I think he wanted to mess with us before he told us we won or retained the business. While he would never straight up tell you he was happy for you to get the business, you could tell that it gave him great satisfaction to see you win if he cared about you. What seems so surreal about Scott being gone is that he just had this aura about him that you trusted that everything would be ok through his leadership and friendship. He was such a brilliant, hard-working, caring visionary and leader. I will miss you Scott.

Scott was a great man and leader. He was kind in all his ways and a perfect gentlemen. I am grateful for the time I had to work with him and so appreciative for the chance he gave me. Growing up in Cartersville he played a huge role in building our Chamber which also played a huge role in positioning Cartersville/Bartow County for growth and success. I celebrate his life and impact and continue to pray for Ashley and the girls as they grieve the loss of this great man.

I was honored to be asked by Scott to be his Best Man when he and Ashley were Married. Their Wedding was at The beautiful Jekyll Island Hotel. Scott, if you really knew him, was very Nervous on "THE DAY" bc he wanted his "Cinderella to have "The Perfect Wedding" (Their Wedding was Exceptional - The Reception Fabulous and "The New Mrs. Scott Hankins "Cinderella" actually had "The Horse Drawn Carriage Ride," (Ashley's current Facebook Cover Page), well...Here we go The Newly Weds were ready to leave for their Honeymoon and Scott (Prince Charming), had a Huge Black Limo rented to take his New Bride away...Mr. and Mrs. Hankins came out of the reception to a huge # of invited guest. I can Still see "That Smile" on Scott's face!!! The Newly Weds were ready to depart on their Honeymoon. Only, thing Scott, (believe it or not, saved a few $'s on the Limo). so he and his New Bride could have a 5* Honeymoon. Well ready - set - go; The Limo would not crank...sitting there - I happened to be right beside Scott's door on the Limo - He got out, his face "Blood Red," and said... "WHY ME!!!" I remember looking at Him and saying " You just Made a Memory!!!" and what a Memory it was 20 1/2 Years It has been. RIO My Friend!!! RIP My Friend!!!
