Ruben Steve Martinez

Ruben Steve Martinez was born on September 28, 1954, and passed away unexpectedly on July 26, 2024, in Chamisal, NM. He is preceded in death by his parents Macedonio and Lucia. Siblings Reynaldo, Josefa, Ramon, and Jose. Ruben is survived by his daughters Loretta (Gerardo), Ruby (Reyes), and Amy. Grandchildren Miguel, Reyes, Joaquin, Evan, Savannah, Bethany, Esperanza, Saul Jr., Cruz, Alicia, and two great-grandchildren. Siblings Alberto, Tom, Lucrides, and Mary. His constant companions, his pups, Blackie and Brownie. Ruben will be deeply missed by many family members and close friends. 

Ruben was well known by many, not only for his outgoing personality and friendly nature but for his sense of humor, infectious laugh, and smile. He was an avid storyteller and would often share stories of places he lived, his adventures, and the many muscle cars he owned throughout his lifetime. Anyone who would visit was instantly offered a dulce, a quequito, or a soda. Ruben was a skilled mechanic and was constantly working on cars. Conversations would easily transition to his most recent project, and he would gladly share how he was making a car uniquely his. Ruben was a jack of all trades and would lend a helping hand to those around him, never turning anyone away. 

Ruben made a lasting impression wherever he went, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. Though we mourn his passing we ask that you all remember our dad for the way he lived his life and cherish the memories he created with each one of you. Our dad's memory will forever remain in Chamisal, always embraced by his beloved mountain. 

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 6:00 pm at the Rivera Funeral Home Chapel in Taos, NM. Our dad will be laid to rest in a private burial at a later date.
