It was a truly moving memorial, so sorry I had to get off the phone suddenly before it ended. I didn't know Roy very well, but hearing all the tributes made me realize how much I missed out. I want to send your family much love and positive energy as you heal your broken hearts. What a beautiful family, and how lucky you all are to have one another!

During the Summer of 2002, I had a summer internship in LA, and I had the joy of living with my Nanie and Pa (aka “Big Poop”) for a couple months. During this time, Pa never left the house without kissing Nanie and telling her how much he loved her, and when he returned he would kiss her again and say the same. Witnessing this type of love was magical — and I certainly felt all his love too. Pa always made those close to him feel his love. There was never a phone call where he didn’t say, “don’t forget how much your Big Poop loves you… and your family”. I’ll never forget the way Pa looked at me on my wedding day when he and Nanie visited me getting ready before the ceremony. Pa’s face lit up and he gave me the biggest and warmest embrace. I think of that moment often and it gives me so much joy knowing how happy he was for me. I can picture him holding my face and saying, “Such a cute little punim!” Pa was the sweetest with my two kids, Annie & Chase, and I have memories of him rolling around with them on the carpet, laughing, and kissing them to pieces. Love you so much, Big Poop. Thank you for showing me what it means to truly love with all your heart. Love, your Little Poop, your grandgirl, Laura Janine (Roy was my grandfather, but to me he was “Pa” or “Big Poop” and I was “Little Poop” or “grandgirl” — which started when I was young and didn’t know how to spell granddaughter when I signed a card.)

Pa was all about the what's "good" in life - he was the most generous person I've ever known, he and Nanie brought the family together (usually over food ;), he taught me chivalry and showed me what unconditional love was all about. We shared a passion for sports and he taught me how to watch a football game, you can't tell the story of Roy Norris without mentioning his loyalty to the USC Trojans. He loved his 6 great grandchildren, 8 grandchildren, his three kids but most of all, his wife. Pa lived such a full life and I was fortunate to live near, visit often, call/text/facetime and share so much with him - I've never known any of my friends to be as close with their grandparents as I had the honor of sharing with both my Nanie & Pa. I hope my cousins & I can continue to keep the family tight-knit and involved with one another moving forward, that's what Pa would have wanted more than anything. Fight On big fella, you will always be with me. Always.
