Rose is special to us in many ways she isn’t just a teen who got hit by a drunk driver and killed she was so much more than that she is the most wonderful daughter, girlfriend, best friend, friend and sister who got killed and taken away from everyone that she loved because of guilt and suffering from someone else life.

Rose was a very memorable person, she had a laugh and personality that could brighten anyone's day. This bench will honor her life, help build her legacy and help teach students the dangers of drunk driving. With this bench being in oci most students will not see it therefore it will not have any one of these benefits. The bench should be placed somewhere everyone would be able to see it. This could help with spreading not only her name and story but also awareness of drunk driving/ drivers. This is about more than just spreading her name and legacy she had lived up here her whole life and deserves more recognition. Putting this bench in a public area could also help those who knew her closely like for example being able to see that she is being remembered and recognized. Rose's laugh was contagious. She was special in many ways like how she could brighten any room with her smile, her personality was one like i've never seen before. Her death has affected so many people negatively and this bench could help people feel closer to her. It's important to many people that her bench is not hidden away and can be seen without having to get into trouble. Rose was very selfless; she put everyone above herself. She cared for everyone she loved so dearly that it's upsetting to not see her get the recognition she deserves. If she noticed something was wrong with anyone she would immediately go and try and make their day better and help with whatever they were going through. She was unique and deserves this bench in her honor.

How did Rosenda make an impact on your life?
I met rose at CHE and even back then I remember her as such a sweet and amazing girl, that obviously never changed and I got the pleasure of watching her grow up. We stayed friends over the years, and when I was in 8th grade I was going through a tough time and rose let me stay at her house. I had the stupid idea to run away and she tried to give me clothes and stuff to help me. When she passed I actually didn't believe it and we weren't as close as I wish we were but we were still friends and I will always be grateful for the amount of time I got to spend with her.

Rosenda Elizabeth Smiley’s life was taken 179 days ago. Our mountain community has pitched in to funding a bench for roses remembrance. This bench should be placed in an open area on campus where everyone can see it rather than in the OCI hallway. She deserves to be remembered and not overlooked by students. Her passing brings awareness to drunk driving and how it can costs the lives of others, her bench should be placed somewhere students can visit often and share fond memories of her. Rose was the type of person to spread her positive outlook on things to everyone she met. Her attitude towards the world made her incredibly special. Not only does the placement of this bench benefit her friends it will broaden her memorial to those who have heard her story. This bench will spread her laudable and optimistic vibrancy across the school.

Rose was (and still is) a incredibly bright and loving person. One of the things that she did constantly and loved to do was make people laugh. Sense she has passed it has been one of our main goals to honor her memory in the way she would have wanted. The benches are just one of the many things we have done to honor her memory, but also one of the most important. The benches signify to me as if Rose was still there and giving me a hug. Putting the bench in the OCI hallway would not allow all the people that loved rose to go see and feel the power and message we put behind those benches. It also wouldn’t honor her legacy in the right way. Rose was extremely smart and always choose to strive in school. OCI is seen as simply a place where the bad misbehaving kids go. Rose was nothing like that. I understand that space may be a issue but there is many spots I believe would be great. For example outside the cafeteria, outside of graphic design (or anywhere near the portables), or by the outside library door. I appreciate you for meeting with us about this. Rose is the most incredible person I have truly ever met, she is unique, funny, caring, ambitious, the list could go on forever. Most importantly though Rose never switched up on anyone and was always there for you. That is why it is so important to us that we do everything we can right in her memory.

How did you meet Rosenda?
i met rose in kindergarten at CHE. She was my childhood friend and she was such a sweet girl i was so devastated when i found out she had passed away. I remember when we used to go to dance lessons and laugh abt dumb little kid things. I wish i could go back to the last time i saw her and give her a big hug she was the sweetest
