Recuerdos

Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure

What to say about loving wife and mother Peggy Dixon? It's quite difficult to sum up such a long and beautiful life as hers in a few paragraphs. However, we're going to give it a shot. Our mom was wonderful! While we certainly had a traditional upbringing in that, we always had a vegetable garden along with her many FABULOUS rose bushes, making EVERYTHING from scratch. Food, baked goods, arts and crafts, clothing, easter egg hunts, picnics, July 4th fireworks, cookies for Santa, etc. She also enjoyed her "adult beverages". Mommy could go toe to toe with the most prolific of imbibers and remain steady on her feet. She rode roller coasters into her 80's and was as excited as a child during the holidays. Just try to stop her from going to the big Thanksgiving Day Parade. Even when it was below freezing that year! Mom loved Christmas music and began playing it November 1st. She sang along knowing the words to each song. Mommy had FOMO before it became a saying. If someone mentioned going anywhere or doing anything, her first response was "I want go". And before you know it, she'd be tagging along. Everything was an adventure, and she was happiest around her family. She raised us to be family oriented and to put them first and foremost. Mommy never met strangers and every year, there were those not a part of our family or friend circle at all the holiday gatherings. Welcomed at her table as if they were hers. Mom was also a tough cookie and did not tolerate rudeness or bullying. She was the only bully allowed. She never swore, however she made her displeasure known under no uncertain terms. Mom could be stern and certainly did not like anyone telling her what she couldn't do. She would just go out and do it to prove you wrong. Mom was fearless and supported her children unconditionally. Mom wanted us all to be independent and have careers, "not jobs". She taught us to be brave and not to allow anything to stand in the way of our goals. She was God fearing and instilled it in us all.

Mom was the last survivor of her six siblings, three sisters and three brothers. She is also preceded in death by our father George Dixon. They were married for over 40 years prior to his passing. They met when she was just 17 years old. He was the love of her life and she never remarried. Mom also outlived three of her children, our sisters Deborah Tatum, Edreanne Dixon and Deidra Dixon-McFadden. She leaves behind her children Wynton Dixon, Kim Haynes, James Dixon and Tracey Rice to monumentally miss her along with great-great, great and grandchildren in addition to nieces and nephews.

Not certain if this truly captures the spirit of Mommy but do hope this gives you a picture of who she was, not just as a mother and wife, but as a human being. Mom, if you're reading this, and you probably are as you were also quite nosy, we hope you approve.
