Pearl Jane Hedlund of Johnson City, TX passed away peacefully at her home, Friday, March 3, 2023. Pearl was born January 18, 1935, to James and Hattie Ondres in their rural family home near Yoakum, TX
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Charles Joseph Hedlund. She is survived by her two sons, Mark Hedlund of Johnson City, Matt Hedlund and wife Nataya of San Antonio, as well as Chrissy Hedlund of Johnson City, mother of Pearl’s two grandchildren Charles and Claire.
Pearl had a long joyful and fulfilling life that influenced many people in a positive way. After having children, she became a homemaker, sold Avon on the side, and then began working in education. She held the position of administrative assistant at elementary and high school campuses in the Northside Independent School District of San Antonio. After serving many years as a key support person in various roles in public education, she retired to further expand her horizons.
During holidays and after retirement, Pearl spent much of her time traveling and enjoying life. She loved classical music and was a devoted fan of the annual summer performances of the Santa Fe Opera. She toured across North America by RV, then flew and cruised to many different countries across several continents. She shared these experiences with different dear friends; those were cherished and treasured times that were close to her heart. She has been a long-standing member of the United Methodist Churches; in San Antonio and Johnson City, and was loyal to her Christian faith.
Pearl loved to spend time visiting family and entertaining her many friends, laughing, playing games and having a good chat. She had the most remarkable ability to make and maintain lifelong loving friendships with the wonderful people she met on her long journey. Pearl will forever be adored and greatly missed by her loving family and friends.
Per her request, Pearl’s ashes will be buried next to her late husband Charles in Shiner, TX during a private family ceremony.
