Paul Passed peacefully in his sleep on Thursday March 31st, 2022. After a 7 month fight after his beloved Connie passed on 8/26/2021. Paul was a loving son to Gerhard and Ann De Groot, raised in Holland and immigrated to Edmonton Alberta Canada in 1963. Proud parents to two children. Candace (1966) and Jeffrey (1969)After many years at the University of Alberta Paul and Connie with their children had another opportunity to immigrate to the United States in 1980. Paul then built home with his best friend Gerhard Sander and finally began his career as a mechanical and electrical engineer. Working for companies like, Visa, Knight Ridder and other big Bay Area brands. In 2000 Paul and Connie decided to follow their children to Placer County, Sun City Lincoln Hills and bought their forever home . Paul finally retired as did Connie and he took care of the love of his life from 2005-2021. He enjoyed helping everyone, neighbours, strangers, trips in his motorhome and cruising with Connie. They were great neighbours and friends to all they met. Leaving behind their daughter Candace and her 4 children, Jeff and his two children. His two oldest granddaughters Jessica with her son Preston, and Aly with her sweet husband Tim and their two amazing girls Kaycee and Maxlee and new baby on the way. His void is huge and deep. We know that he is joined back together with his love Connie and we meet again.

I remember Paul well from my days at the University of Alberta, especially while completing the research for my Masters Degree in the mid-70s. During that time, I spent many fulfilling hours in the Psychology Department Workshop designing and building experimental apparatus, while learning how to properly use the tools and equipment to do so. Paul and his team provided a great deal of support and encouragement to me, and I considered them among my best friends at the University. The successes I achieved in my research were largely due to them. Along with my good memories, I have retained a great fondness for working with all kinds of materials and mechanisms to make things, and for a deep appreciation of the tools I use. I awoke this morning again remembering Paul and my times in the Workshop, so searched for him on the Web and saw that he had died in March. I would like to have said these things to him before then, but console myself with the knowledge that his loved ones may see them, Thank you, Paul.
