Recuerdos

Patrick Ranson Hastings was born January 13, 1955 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Pat was the third son of Susan Jane Baxter Hastings and Robert Francis Hastings. He died on September 4, 2021, in Charleston, SC.

Pat loved life and lived large, taking risks from an early age. He had big dreams and big plans. Smart, good looking, athletic, and kind, Pat was a good man with a good heart. He helped others as often as he could. As a youth and young adult, Pat loved baseball, golf, and high adventure. He had more than his fair share of trips to the emergency room during his young life. Pat was an Eagle Scout. As an adult he loved family, golf, friends, fishing, and travel. He played baseball (pitcher) at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indiana and the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. He joined the Air Force after college. In more recent years he visited the emergency room with heart issues.

Pat was a family man who was proud of all of his children. He hoped to instill honesty, kindness, and deep strength in his sons and daughter. He lovingly welcomed to the world, Patrick Edward Hastings, William Robert Hastings, Conner Ryan Hastings, and Hannah Jackson Hastings. He was delighted with the arrival of his grandson, Roman, and made sure the little guy and 'real' golf clubs in his little hands by his second birthday.

Beginning his after college and Air Force work life, Pat worked in Lexington, SC, for the county/state in the field of Social Work. He soon moved on to the excitement of securities trading with Merrill Lynch. He was an honest and fair municipal bond trader extraordinaire during the heyday of high interest rates and beyond. After Merrill Lynch in Atlanta, GA, and Dallas,Texas, Pat worked for Howard Weil in New Orleans, LA, J.C. Bradford in Nashville, TN, Stephens of Little Rock, and Ross Sinclair of Cincinnati. Pat will long be remembered for his brusk 'trading desk' voice, his attention to detail, and his deep integrity in dealings with colleagues and clients.

When not at the office Pat could be found on the golf course, mowing his lawn, and showing up to watch his children's athletic and school events. Pat had a great love of all things golf and especially the Augusta National - he had the good fortune of playing, staying, and inviting guests to join him on golf trips with his Uncle Val. In his 30's he began to love travel and went to many amazing places to play golf, to scuba dive, to fish, and to hunt geese. A favortie annual trip was goose hunting in Canada with his father, Bob, and his brothers, Jack and Gordon.

Pat moved to Charleston, SC in 2011 and loved living near the ocean - sunsets, sand, salt marshes, and fishing were easily enjoyed from/near his backyard. Pat will be missed and remembered by many. He is survived by his four children: Patrick Edward Hastings, William Robert Hastings, Conner Ryan Hastings, and Hannah Jackson Hastings. He is survived by his grandson, Roman V. Hastings. He is survived by his three siblings: Jack Hastings (Jennifer), Gordon Hastings (Mardi), and Clair Lombardo (J.P.). His parents Sue and Bob Hastings, and his brother Robert Edward "Pink" Hastings predeceased him.

Our family appreciates the many kind words and stories shared about Pat. A memorial service will be held in Nashville, TN, at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 15th at St. Augustine's Chapel A-Frame location, 2308 Vanderbilt Place, #D, Nashville, TN 37212

Please allow time for parking and walking to the Chapel. The walk is easy and about two blocks from the garage.  Vanderbilt’s campus is now environmentally friendly, cars not so much.  A few parking options are below and the attached map highlights how to get from the parking garage to the A-frame.  The physical address for the chapel is: 2308 Vanderbilt Place #D, Nashville, TN 37212

Options for parking:

  • Meter parking on West End (free on Saturdays)
  • 2525 West End Garage (takes cash and cards)
  • Ask guests to use Lyft or Uber

Because there has been construction on Vanderbilt's campus, the road that used to run directly in front of the chapel (24th Ave S) no longer exists. Instead, folks will need to come by way of 25th Ave S and then walk down Kensington Pl to access the chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Larkspur Conservation Burial (Tennessee) 615-854-0010, or your choice of non-profit that helps people and the world.  Thank you.
