On October 17, 2022 we lost our beautiful talented child, Neta, nee Sabina, Gelb. They were 24 years old, a musician, artist and writer who was deeply loved by their friends, their soulmate Nukté, parents Angela and Gary, Grandmother Helen and extended family.
Neta identified as non-binary trans and this was a huge part of their identity. Neta lived life on their own terms. They travelled all over the United States and experienced a rich adulthood filled with music, friends and finding their own identity. Neta had as we all do, times of sorrow, times of peace and times of joy. This year they adopted an abused dog, named her Aileen and loved and cared for her so much that Aileen became peaceful and confident.
Recently, Neta began studying Judaism and adopted the name Neta, which means “seedling” in Hebrew. They were deeply interested in gender identity and the Anarchist movement and not afraid of exploring new ideas and challenging the usual order of life. Nukté, described Neta as someone who loved people “so hard”, and is grateful to Neta's family for raising a person who could love so deeply and loyally. Neta will be missed so very much.

How did you meet Neta, nee Sabina?
I'm heartbroken to hear about Neta's passing. I went to preschool, elementary and middle school with them, and I’ll always remember how kind, creative, and empathetic they always were. Even back then, they stood out as someone really special. My thoughts are with their family and loved ones.

Hi, my name is Jackie and I was Neta's classmate at Spence. Somehow I only just learned of Neta's passing, and I am so deeply saddened to hear this horrible news. Although we hadn't been in touch in the past few years, I have been thinking of Neta recently as I moved to the West Coast and especially as I began delving into my coming-out story in my music. As two of the few out students at Spence in 2016, Neta and I became close friends in my junior year. I gravitated toward Neta because of their brilliant self-expression, fierce passion for their beliefs, and hilarious personality. I have a great memory of Neta doing my makeup one day in the common space at Spence. I still have pictures of the bright purple lips and strong, sharp curving black lines they drew on my face. I wore that makeup so proudly all around Spence, and on my whole walk home. Neta was a beautiful and bright light in this world, and will be dearly missed by everyone they touched. Thank you Neta for always speaking so fearlessly to protect what you loved, for being so proud to be yourself, and for being my friend. I will miss you forever. Jackie
