Michael Healy

Michael was born on September 4, 1932 in Chicago and passed on November 21, 2018. Michael was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all friends and family. He lived his life as we all wish we all would. He surrounded himself with love and adventure and his experiences in this world have created so many stories that he loved to share with the rest of the world. These stories range from hiding under floorboards in Mississippi during the Civil Rights era, fighting for equality, running and riding in the first every Levi-Strauss Ride'n'Tie race, and also running in the Master's Olympics in Sweden. He learned by doing, without instruction or direction, without fear or reservation, and believed that every mistake was a learning opportunity. Michael was someone who believed that every experience we have teaches us something, and that everything we learn should be shared with others. He spent his life spreading his learned knowledge to everyone that he encountered. He was a proud father, an adoring grandfather, a loving brother and uncle, a loving husband, a teacher, a bard, and a wonderful friend. Michael was the father of six children: Michael Robert, Michelle Annette, Shannon Winston, Monique Renee, Sabrina Ashley, and Erin Chelsea. He was also the grandfather of ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was the loving husband to a wonderful woman, Faye, of 39 years. Michael and Faye hosted many high school exchange students, who have become Honorary African Healys: Abu, Awad, Yassir, Mamani, Habib, Auwal, Said, and Abdoulaye.
