Melanie Yolande Murphy passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022. She was born in St. Louis, MO to the late Harry & Cleola Rogers, she is survived by her brother Keith (Lucille) Rogers, three sons; Ryan (Morgen Johnson) & Tallulah Murphy; Stephen Murphy; and Grant (Ashleigh) Hendrix, Jasper & Maevyn Murphy.

How can one sum up a person's entire existence in a few paragraphs? How is that even possible? Especially with a life well lived, so full of love and joy, highs and lows, of travels all over the world to see & experience & taste cultures many of us may never have the opportunity to. How can we begin to measure the impact a teacher could have on her students, a mother on her children & grandchildren?

Melanie's life was a collection of beautiful moments, things, people, and music. She was a dedicated music teacher for over 30 years for the Parkway School District, where she served her friends and students well. After her retirement in 2012, she continued to pursue her love of the violin, playing for many seasons in the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra, even using her other creative gifts & talents - collaborating on many a beautiful handmade quilt for their fundraising efforts. For those who've known Melanie personally, you've gotten to experience her spirit & spunk, tenacity, fierce independence, a constant support system, a wildly talented musician & teacher, a fashionista, a lover of delicious foods, beautiful travels, and a quiet strength that's hard to put into words. She loved us all well, raising 3 amazing men (each as gifted & hardworking as the next) & cherishing her 4 sweet grandchildren. She certainly loved & doted on her grandsons, Hendrix & Jasper, but always hoping for a little girl herself, it was so incredibly special & TRULY one of life's greatest blessings when she got not one but TWO granddaughters within 4 months of each other!

While we would give anything to have had many more years full of many more memories - we are so incredibly grateful for the time we had together. We will FOREVER thank God for giving us the sense of urgency with our time together, that we acted on it & didn't take it for granted. We made A LOT of great memories during the time we did have.

We know Melanie's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. If you knew Melanie personally, we would LOVE to hear your favorite memories or stories of your time together!!

Melanie's smile said it all. She was a class act in all that she did. Her joy of life (whether it was eating at a new "cool" restaurant, shopping, quilting, traveling or experiencing cultural events) was always an uplifting and positive influence on those around her! Her beautiful smile endured until the end. I still felt her warmth and grace on my last visit. I miss her dearly.

I loved making music with Melanie in the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra and miss looking across the room and seeing her in the first violin section. She was so proud of her kids and grandkids and loved talking about them.

Stephen introduced me to Melanie through a videocall more than a year ago, and I had the honor and blessing of meeting her in person during May this year. I am amazed of how she made me feel so welcomed and how I could feel her affection through videocalls. The week I spend visiting her is one of my most cherished memories, and being able to finally hug her is a gift I will forever be grateful for. I miss asking Stephen about her and sending her "hellos and hugs" every Sunday, but I am deeply grateful for her life, her family, and Stephen. I keep her memory close to my heart.

I am so sorry to see this- we sold our home on Caballero to her in the 90’s and then our son and daughter in law bought it 3 years ago/ we all just thought Melanie was delightful and it was a ‘“ meant to be” thing that our house came back to us- we were grateful she took such good care of it! Our condolences to your family
