Marilyn Murphy
June 11th, 1944 - March 13th, 2022
June 11th, 1944 - March 13th, 2022
She blessed our hearts with her life, her laughter and her love.
Marilyn Murphy 77, of Overland Park, passed away peacefully, from lymphoma, on March 13, 2022, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born on June 11th, 1944 to George and Kathryn Daws in Lena, Illinois, and she immediately brought joy and laughter into the world. Marilyn was proud to be a farm girl who enjoyed 4-H, sewing, and shenanigans with her ornery brothers, Bob and Jim.
Marilyn was a dedicated nurse who graduated from Lena Winslow High School in 1962, went on to obtain her nursing degree in Freeport Memorial Hospital in Freeport, Illinois in 1962-1965 and later became a certified registered nurse anesthetist from Kansas City General Hospital and Medical Center.
Marilyn had a special way to calm, comfort, and put patients at ease. With her big smile, infectious laugh, and open heart, Marilyn was a friend to all. Friends could count on Marilyn to call on them by name, find humor in any situation, and ease the most difficult situations. Her motherly love and welcoming spirit extended and wrapped around those she loved.
Most dear to Marilyn was her family. The joy and light of her life was her daughter, Dania Stainbrook, and three grandsons, Grant, Kyle and Reid Stainbrook. Marilyn raised Dania to be a remarkable woman who accomplished many things, including following in her footsteps, and becoming a nurse and then nurse practitioner. Marilyn especially loved spending time with her beloved grandsons and was known for taking them out for special breakfasts, sewing costumes for them, or entertaining them by playing her piano while they spent time at Mimi’s house. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents George and Kathryn Daws and brother, James (Barbara) Daws. She is survived by her daughter, Dania Stainbrook, of Olathe, and her three beloved grandchildren, Grant, Kyle, and Reid Stainbrook, as well as her brother Robert (Dianne), dear companion, John Hudson, several nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Marilyn will be remembered on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West in Olathe, Kansas. Visitation will begin at 12:00pm and will immediately be followed by a celebration of her life at 1:00pm.

Marilyn was a customer of ours for over 26 years, and we provided service to her home in Grammercy Park. Marilyn was always a caring, and upbeat customer of ours that treated us with respect, and love which reciprocated back to her as well. Marilyn was always a bright spot to our day when we would visit her at her home, and she will be missed by all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. One of the most loving and absolutely wonderful human beings I have ever known! Growing up around her was a blessing I am so thankful to have had! She always had a way to make me laugh and embrace life with a smile! I met her when I became friends with her daughter and she was such an amazing mother and woman and I grew to consider her my dear friend as well! There are so many of us young women who grew up around her and she inspired each of us to become the strong, independent woman we grew up to be! Love and miss you so much!

Marilyn was hands down my absolute favorite neighbor ever. She was the sweetest lady, even to the crazy kiddos always at my house. In the summer, we would talk about plants and she was always bringing me her gardentomatoes and I'd give her some of my garden basil. I will so miss seeing her face

Marilyn was my “back door neighbor” at Gramercy Park. We met when she approached me as I was setting out my trash cans one night shortly after we moved in. She greeted me with a warm and infectious smile and we chatted as if we’d known one another for years. I remember telling her SHE MUST BE A VERY SPECIAL WOMAN because my Mother’s name was Marilyn. She laughed and said she hoped she could live up to my expectations. I regret time did not allow us to become better acquainted. I will sorely miss seeing and talking to Marilyn. I will lift your family up in my prayers.

It was such a pleasure to meet Marilyn recently and I cherish the conversations with this joyful lovely lady. My sincere condolences to my friend and medical provider, Dania, as she misses her dear mom.

My sweet neighbor. I am having the hardest time. I continue to look outside to see if you are out on patio enjoying the weather. I keep looking for you as I have for the last 3 years. I can’t imagine being here without you.
