Our heartfelt condolences to the De Mello family. We are deeply sorry for your loss. Please know that we are thinking of you all at this difficult time. We remember Marcus as a kind and gentle soul, who never forgot our birthdays and always called to wish you. We missed his calls in the last year, which we assume was due to his health. You will be missed Marcus. Eulalla, you will be in our prayers, as we know there will be a void, now that Marcus has returned home. May god give you strength and ease your sorrow. Much love David &’Lydia.

We were deeply saddned to hear that our beloved Marcus passed away. He had a great sense of humour and was a warm and affectionate person. He loved cricket and had a collection of trophies. He always visited us in Nairobi and the UK. Even our kids loved him and his sense of humour. We will all miss him and will always remain in our prayers RIP

I was saddened to hear of Marcus’s passing. Whenever I think of him, my thoughts go back to him and his family in Uganda and England. He loved telling jokes and playing tricks on you. His love for his family was evident with many nieces, nephews, cousins, siblings and in-laws around the globe. His kind and gentle demeanor won him many friends as is evident in some of the tributes that are pouring in. Marcus, even though we did not meet as often as we were on 2 different continents, your thoughts will always remain with me. When I read and saw all the pictures, it brought so many warm memories. Rest in eternal peace Marcus. The world has lost a special human.

On 16th November 2024 me and my mum visited Marcus & Eulalia at their flat in Crouch End. I hadn’t seen them since I was younger but Marcus had the same energy and cheekiness that I remembered. His smile and laughter lit up the room and I did not know that it would be the last time that I would see him. He was a great story teller, it was a gift. I will treasure the last story he told me that day: He told me that he came to england in 1972 from Entebbe on a plane full of indian people, he was the only Goan. He remembers going to Yeovil in Somerset where he spent 14 days in a camp. He then made his way to Euston station in London to meet his wife and mother. He told me that he worked at Selfridges in the suitcase department. One day he wrote to the British Government office looking for work in the same department that he had worked in, in Uganda. He took half a day off to go to the interview. He sat down and immediately the guy asked him when he could start, recalling that he had one week’s notice at Selfridges. He worked in management accounts and was good at maths. Then they moved their office from Waterloo Station to Sutton and he had to wake up at 5.15am every day to travel 2 hours each way. He paused ‘I travelled half the world to get to work’ he said. Wherever you are travelling now Marcus, I hope you have found peace 💚

Oh Marcus you brought us joy and gave us so much Love. I shall miss your lovely cards and letters with your beautiful handwriting. When we visited you just before Christmas Lisa and I sat with you listening to your stories of years gone by, she sat and made notes so she won’t forget. So much laughter in that short visit. You always stayed with us in Nairobi when you visited for Cricket matches, filling our home with fun and laughter. Your work is done Marcus Rest well in Heaven. The gates of Heaven will be held open by all your Family waiting for you to update them with new material you have collected to make them laugh again. You will also have a clear view from up there of your beloved Liverpool playing their best to win the title. 🙏😘❤️🍷 lots of 💝 Linda Fernandes-Brooks
