I was shocked and deeply saddened when I heard the news about Luis. I knew him as a friendly person and a much respected colleague. His passing is a great loss to all of us. My condolences to his family.

Luis was a longtime & beloved played at the Halifax PLAYS Volleyball program, who will solely missed by our organization & his friends + teammates... He always had a big smile whenever playing, which masked what was a truly fearsome serve & some incredible skill, with Luis both a fantastic person off the field + player on it. His death is a huge loss for our community, and we do wish the best for his family.

I'm so sad to learn of his passing. We played in a volleyball league together. Just last night I was missing him on the court and hoping he would join us again soon. He was such a talented and energetic player, always encouraging his team to work hard but have fun doing it. I've adopted one of his saying, 'good ball'; I'll think of him when I say it. Rest easy, Luis and sincere condolences to his family.

I first met Torgo while I was studying at Dal. We didn't talk much back then, but a lot of people told me about the great professor he was. Then one day we found out that we both liked to play volleyball. So we started playing together in Halifax. He was so talented! He would save the craziest balls and would hit so hard. One game I tried to block him, but his spike was so hard my hands just opened like a door. He would also jump so high. He was all rounded player, which I observed closely so I could learn from him as much as I could. Besides being respected both at University and in the court, he was a person with a great heart. We would always offer help, he would always offer us a ride to our games. And was also a very proud father! In our car rides, he used to talk about his children and how well they were doing in school in Halifax, about their games. Cyndi and I wish our condolences to his wife Catarina and their lovely two sons, Hugo e Pedro. He left the world early, but not without making a positive impact on every person that he had around him. Rest in peace
