March 5th, 1946 - February 22nd, 2021
Sadly, we announce Linda’s passing February 22, 2021 in Bundaberg, Australia. Born in Wolfville March 5, 1946, the 1st of 6 children of the late Reg and Stella (Mott) Murphy. After graduating from Prince Andrew High School, Linda completed lab technician training at the VG Hospital in 1964. She advanced her knowledge with specialized education in Haematology at Peter Levine Labs in New Jersey and worked at the Path Lab in Halifax. She married Thomas Bell in 1965 and they immigrated to Australia in 1973 along with their 2 young children. Her career continued with a position at the very prestigious St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. Her travel adventures included a stay in Monterey, California in the early 1980s; a professionally fulfilling work term in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War; a safari in Kenya; and frequent visits to England, Wales and home. She married John Collins in 1994 and they settled in Bundaberg. She was well known and loved by her community, serving as president of the local Bundaberg Women’s Net-work and a decade as a ten-pin bowling team member. A talented digital designer, she returned to Central Queensland University in her 60s graduating with a BA (Honours) in Multi Media. She was truly loved by the staff and residents of Tri Care Nursing Home and is sadly missed. She was predeceased by brother Drew, sister Jennifer and husband John. She leaves behind daughter Christina (Bundaberg); son Andrew (Sydney); beloved granddaughters Jessica (Bundaberg) and Charlotte (Bangalow); former husband Thomas (Brisbane); sisters Theresa Wilson (Auburn), Toni Heatley (Mooseland); brother John Murphy (Bedford); 2 fur baby dogs Monty and Gabby. Linda loved her dogs as family - local memorial donations are welcomed by your local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. It gives us comfort that Linda believed she would meet up again with her family in heaven.

I knew Linda and John in Saudi Arabia, two of my closest friends. Spent many an evening together drinking suspect alcohol and putting the world to rights. So sorry that I never had the opportunity to meet up with them again in Bundaburg. Miss them both. Rest in peace dear friends.

Christina and Andrew; I was friends with your Mom and Dad in Halifax. I met them there in 1964.I was in the Navy and Engineering with your Dad. I was at the Bon Voyage party for your trip to Australia. I would enjoy talking with you about some other memories. Larry Honey 902 678-6852. Kentville, Nova Scotia.

This photo was taken on Christmas 2020. My memories of mummy are of her always doing something. Be that making bread rolls for the week ahead, fixing a broken website, running an errand, doing the washing or playing ten pin hoping for a strike. She was always trying to make other peoples’ lives better. Over the last five years she stopped being able to do this. However, this provided space for our relationship blossom into a wonderfully nurturing, joyful and authentic relationship. We laughed and sang and danced and walked barefoot on the grass. I helped mum choose her cloths, brush her hair, do her nails. Sometimes we just sat. Mum remained articulate and grateful always. This touched the hearts of the staff at Tri Care and they miss her greatly. Personally, this has been a wonderfully difficult journey. A heavy burden of responsibly and privilege. I am tired and bereft, but I am a better person than I was five years ago. We move on now. Life continues and if we don’t jump back into ‘normality’ we will be left behind. Goodbye Mummy. I hope I have made you proud. I love you.
