At our 45th reunion Lance shared his enthusiasm and commitment to Muskingum with me over lunch. He successfully encouraged me to increase my level of giving to the we both enjoyed and respected. I will always remember Lance's dedication to the continuation of the Muskingum ideals of knowledge and independence.

It was such a joy to get to know Lance over the last several years on his many trips back to Muskingum for reunions. He was so intentional in his conversations - especially as he shared how much his Muskingum experience meant to him. We will miss him.

I will miss Lance Roepe, especially the telephone calls to catch up on news about fellow Muskies and discussions of the world. A writer and poet, Lance was passionate about the new student literary publication he helped start - First Circle. Over the years, he tried his hand at teaching, writing, editing, publishing, sales and marketing, voter registration, visit to Wales (including the home of Dylan Thomas), even a stint in the Peace Corps in Africa. He worked for the Santa Clara (CA) Transit Authority for years. Lance marched to his own drummer. He enjoyed people, especially Muskies. He held a set of values - kindness, fairness, honesty - through which he viewed the world and related to others. Passionate and loyal, Lance Roepe was a great Muskie and a wonderful human being.
