Karen (Thompson/Houser) Fredrick was born on December 11, 1947 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She passed on January 18, 2021 unexpectedly of a heart attack in Key Largo, Florida. Her final resting place will be Cedar Creek Cemetery in DeKalb County, Indiana.
Karen loved Jesus and her family – more than anything in this world. She loved spending time in the sun with her family and caring for her many, many plants and flowers. She was strong and spunky with a heart of gold. Overcoming many obstacles in her life, she always had a positive attitude and worked for what she believed in – whether it be the next real estate venture, remodel project, or landscape design. She always had a smile on her face and spread joy to others. She was a generous, kind, and loving soul.
Karen attended South Side High School in Fort Wayne, Class of '65, then studied business at Indiana/Purdue University Fort Wayne. She was involved in industrial development, commercial real estate, and was an entrepreneur – owning a trucking company, rental homes, and much more. Along with her husband, Jim, she was also deeply involved in their church community, CrossPointe Family Church in Kendallville, Indiana. Over the past several years, they have spent the winters in Key Largo, Florida and summers in Wolcottville, Indiana.
Karen will be deeply missed by her husband, James (Jim) Fredrick; four daughters (and their spouses), Guenn (David) Stevenson, Deborah (Seth) Smolinske, Dawn (Marty) Bradshaw, and Sheli (Ryan) Plummer; her 13 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her mother, Betty Sowers; sister, Linda Koger; and brother, Gary (Pat) Thompson.
**Please see events page for memorial service information.**
She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her. "Many women do noble things, but you surpassed them all." Proverbs 31:27-29
