February 1st, 1954 - October 20th, 2022
Joseph Edward Smith, 68, of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of October 20, 2022, in his home surrounded by family. Joe was born February 1, 1954, to George and Ruth Smith in Akron, Ohio. His family relocated to Arizona where he made many happy memories growing up with brothers, Jerry and Tom, sister, Carolyn, and his canine companion, Tiger. He graduated from West High School in Phoenix, Arizona. Following high school, he shared his love of aviation by instructing soaring classes at Turf Soaring School for several years. Around this time, he met the love of his life, Jane Ellen Fleck. They married in 1980 and spent 42 years building their lives together. Joe was a talented florist for 20 years. He managed three shops prior to owning his own shop, The Ritz Florist in Scottsdale, Arizona. Through the years, Joe enjoyed wood crafting, barbecuing and supporting his favorite baseball team, The Arizona Diamondbacks. He was always up for a good game of "Sorry" and loved listening to The Doobie Brothers. His favorite pastime was fishing with his family. His most prized catch was a five foot long king salmon caught in Ketchikan, Alaska. Joe was preceded in death by his parents: George and Ruth, as well as his sister: Carolyn. He is survived by his wife: Jane Smith, children: Megan McKiernan (and husband Jake) and Becky Smith, brother: Jerry Smith (and wife Cheryl) and beloved cats: Wiley and Isabelle. There are several nieces, nephews and extended family members that will also miss him dearly. Anyone who knew Joe, knew he was a kind and loving husband, father, brother and friend. He loved to share his life-long stories and adventures with all. His memories will live on forever through all he touched.
