I heard about Joe's passing at the Center for Children's annual event this year and my heart sank as he was such a happy, giving supporter of the Center and no one can replace him as Willy Wonka. I will miss his huge smile and heart the most. He is enjoying his next chapter in Heaven!

So a few years ago, these two characters plotted to surprise me for a birthday event in Las Vegas. Kathy rolled me through the most off the wall journey getting me there. We stayed in remote places along the way, eventually getting to The Bellagio Hotel, where she indicated she wanted to stay because she was tired. She wanted to go to dinner at 7:00 and was insistent that we be in time. We got there are we're seated. The waiter came from behind asking me what I'd like to eat. It was Joe. They pulled off a coup. It was an epic night together...1 of so many! RIP bro. Miss the hell out of our Monday calls.

Joe was a friend, a partner, an inspiration and a staunch supporter of the San Diego Center for Children. He was generous with his time, his treasure and his wisdom. Every time I would meet with him, I would discover a new dimension: the background he overcame, his athletic ability (yes, he was a triathlete), his success as a professional, and his desire to help others which led him to write his book. Joe taught me that when you greet someone you care about you should embrace them in such a way that your left chest touches theirs, heart to heart. Joe, we'll miss you but above all we are grateful for the meaningful ways in which you touched so many hearts.

Very sad to see him go. I met Joe when I started working for San Diego Center for Children, and I took this pic of my first event with him in 2015 - the Wacky Wonky Walk with Joe leading the way as Wacky Willy. He was so proud to support the Center that day and in so many ways since. The Center could not have asked for a better cheerleader than Joe. I called him the Honorary Mayor of the Center. He always lead with kindness and gratitude. It was truly a privilege to know him, and we'll miss him dearly.
