John Lynn Rutledge

John Lynn Rutledge, 83, most recently of Allen, TX and Hot Springs Village, AR, passed away peacefully on his birthday, Monday, June 8, 2026 after suffering a series of transient ischemic attacks.

 

John was born on June 8, 1943 in Houston, Texas. He was blessed to have been born with his best friend, his identical twin brother, Tom Rutledge to their parents, Millerd and Aileen Rutledge. He grew up in Dallas, TX and  attended Preston Hollow Elementary school and Hillcrest High school. His senior year he attended and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. 

 

After attending North Texas State University, Both he and his brother Tom began a lifelong career with the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. He and his brother also shared a passionate love of golf. This lifelong passion led them to retire to Hot Springs Village, AR to be able to play golf as much as they wanted, which was daily and often.

 

John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lena Sue Rutledge; son, John Thomas Rutledge and his wife Kelly, son Daniel Lynn Rutledge and his wife Michelle, and step-daughter, Kimberly Ann Stanley and her husband Scott; He is also survived by his adoring grand children, Mackenzie, Hunter, Alexander, Gavin, Aidan, Taylor, Sam, and Will, and great grandchild Arabella; his older brother Millerd (Mickey) Rutledge and sister Phyllis Karlowitz. He is predeceased by his parents, Millerd and Aileen Rutledge; his Twin brother Thomas Glynn Rutledge; and his step son Adrian Earl Wiley. 

 

The family would like to profoundly thank Danny and Michelle for their tireless sacrifice the past few years stepping in and assuming the roll of caregiver for both John and Lena. A celebration of life for John will be held at a later date to  be determined.
