Three months ago today I would have never guessed I wouldn't hear your voice again. I would have never guessed that you were on your way to peace and comfort without us. I would have never thought that the memory, while driving into work that morning, of the bunny puppet you brought me from Korea when I was 11 that I cherished would be your notice to me that you were on your way out. I have spent the last three months remembering our many discussions, arguments, fights, and laughter. If I could go back in time I would take myself to three months ago yesterday and I would call you just to give you crap and pick an argument just for the sake of arguing. That's what we did. I wouldn't tell you I love you because you already knew that. But I would invite you over for dinner at moms on Sunday afternoon and I when you showed up I would spend the day laughing and fighting with you. We spent so many years fighting. But those are the moments we knew we couldn't have with anyone else because nobody else understood how our minds worked. Your CAV Scout mentality and my Paratrooper mind...we never saw eye to eye on most things, but the one thing we shared and loved more than anything is our family. It's not the same without you. We are lost and broken and somehow we need to find each other and reconnect. It's like a pack of wolves running in the wild lost and looking for our brother...eventually we will regroup and be ok, but for now, we miss you. I miss you. Choco, Thunder, and Honey, they miss you. Mom misses you. We all just miss you so much and the holidays, well; they are going to be very different without you. Thank you brother, for the many memories, the laughter and the joy. Thank you for teaching me to be a strong woman in the military and for my children. Thank you for teaching me to appreciate every moment because when we leave we are gone, and there is no coming back. Thank you for taking time to be a brother when you could have been off doing so many other things. I

John was an avid fisherman and loved showing others how to fly fish. So one day he was going out and asked me if I wanted to learn. "Sure", I said. We packed up the gear and headed over to Angel Fire to a small pond. It was high noon and hot; we were lucky enough to find a shady spot. John repeatedly showed me how to cast, every tenth or so cast was okay. We laughed and had our sandwiches and waters, chased after our dogs, Choco, Beau and Nikki. After about 4 1/2 hours of casting, looking for better spots, I determined mid-day was probably not the best time to fish. John laughed and said it was good practice and a lesson in patience. He was right about that. We saw other trucks pull up on the other side of the lake and decided to join them. Stopping at the bait house, we got some worms and shrimp, and found a spot not too close to others. We started casting again and noticed the fish coming to the surface. Within a half hour we had ourselves 7 fish, albeit small, to take home. Since I don't know how to clean fish, I gave my few to Johnny to take to his family. It was a wonderful day, just John and me and the dogs at a lake fishing.

When John came into my life, I knew he was a special spiritual soul. We met painting. He was far more accomplished than I, and I was intimidated by that. But soon he was encouraging me to keep at it. And he made a beautiful frame for my finished piece that I will cherish forever. Like him! John was the kindest person I have ever met, truly. He was a dear and trusted friend. I will be forever grateful for having known and loved him.
