John 14:1-3 – "Do not let your hearts be troubled... My Father's house has many rooms... I am going there to prepare a place for you
It is with heavy hearts and tear-filled eyes that we remember our dear friend, brother, son, and one of Nigeria's most brilliant fashion visionaries. John Ezomoh has passed on from this life, leaving a void in our lives that cannot be filled and in the world of style he helped shape with his bare hands and boundless imagination.
John was more than a designer he was a creative force of nature. As the founder of the John Xzomo brand, he poured every ounce of his soul into making people look and feel their very best. To him, fashion was never just about clothes. It was about stories the stories of the people who wore his pieces, the stories of their confidence, their triumphs, and their everyday courage. His work was not merely fabric and thread; it was art, it was confidence, and it was identity stitched together with love and precision.
From the runways of Rip the Runway in 2014, where he first captivated audiences with his bold vision, to his breathtaking "Rebirth" collection in 2017, John showed us what it truly meant to evolve, to grow, and to never stop creating. That collection, with its rich velvet fabrics, flawless tailoring, and masterful blend of traditional and contemporary cuts, was a testament to a man who refused to stand still. He was always reaching higher, dreaming bigger, and pushing the boundaries of what menswear could be in Nigeria and beyond.
His talent did not go unnoticed. For those who knew John, you knew that he treated every client the same, whether they were a superstar or a young man walking into his studio for his first custom suit. He gave everyone his full attention, his full heart, and his very best work. That was the kind of man he was humble, gracious, and deeply respectful of every person who crossed his path.
But to those of us who were blessed to know him personally, John was so much more than his accolades, his awards, or the famous names he dressed. He was:
· A loyal friend who showed up when it truly mattered not just in the good times, but in the quiet, difficult moments when we needed a listening ear or a reassuring word.
· A warm soul whose laughter was contagious and whose smile could light up even the darkest room. He had a way of making you feel seen, heard, and valued.
· A mentor who inspired young designers to chase their dreams fearlessly. He never hoarded his knowledge; he shared it freely, lifting others as he climbed.
· A gentle spirit who loved deeply and gave generously. He gave his time, his energy, his creativity, and his heart without expecting anything in return.
· A brother to many who were not blood but became family because of the love he extended so freely.
· A dreamer who dared to believe that Nigerian fashion could stand tall on the global stage, and he worked tirelessly to make that dream a reality.
His sudden and unexpected passing leaves us shattered. We are mourning the loss of a man who had so much more to give, so many more designs to create, so many more dreams to fulfill, and so many more lives to touch with his gift. The silence he leaves behind is deafening, and the pain of his absence is a weight we carry with every passing moment.
As we come together to share photos, videos, and memories to honor him, let us not just remember the designer let us remember the man. Let us hold onto the laughter that echoed through late-night studio sessions, the deep conversations that stretched into the early hours of the morning, the music that played while he worked his magic, and the countless moments of joy, struggle, triumph, and love that made John who he was.
Let us celebrate the legacy he leaves behind not just in fashion, but in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His designs may fade, but the impact he had on our lives will last forever. The final resting plans will also be communicated from here

Dear John, You were light , you had a kind smile and an infectious presence, even with our constant bickering during events it was impossible to stay upset just because of how much joy you carried. It’s hard to believe that our last goodbye was indeed our last goodbye and that I won’t hear you call me “her mother’s daughter” ever again. It’s hard but in all we surrender to God . Thank you for being unabashedly yourself . You will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. Rest Easy John, Mofe.

I honestly don’t have the words. To say I was shocked when I heard this news would be an understatement. I didn’t want to believe it, and even now, I still find it difficult to accept that you are no longer with us. John was such an amazing person to know and work with. During the periods I lived in Lagos and served in Protocol at House on the Rock, it was always a pleasure to be around him. He was a genuinely humble person, with no airs about him. He was lively, cheerful, easygoing, and always brought a warmth that made people feel comfortable around him. John also excelled in his craft. Whether it was the T-shirts he made for Experience, the suits, the kaftans, or any of his other creations, you could always tell when John was behind it. If John was making it, you knew it would be exceptional, unique, and beautifully done. He was truly gifted at what he did. It is a very hard pill to swallow, knowing that you are no longer here with us. But as the Bible says, “The memory of the righteous is blessed.” Indeed, your memory is blessed. You will always be remembered with great fondness, love, and gratitude for the life you lived and the impact you made on those around you. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and loved ones at this difficult time. May God comfort them, strengthen them, and give them the grace they need to walk through this season. May they find comfort in knowing that you are in a better place, and that one day, we will all meet again. Rest well, my brother and friend. You will be deeply missed, but you will never be forgotten.

A short note about my brother John: John and I served on the Protocol Team at House on the Rock Church in Lagos. A Talented Designer with his own clothing label and gifted amazing human being who made everyone around him laugh and lit up the room!! Each year in December for the past 4/5 years we would ride together serving the guest ministers as part of the transportation team for the end of year gospel concert The Experience. I would drive and John would escort the guests from airport to hotels, sound check, lunch anywhere they needed to go. I'd always text him once I was in town about my custom outfit and logistics and he'd say "No worries bro I got you!". He had my measurements already and always delivered excellence. Once i resumed for duty I'd see his..4am calls and texts.. "Jeggz Baba...are you at Eko Hotel??"....we would laugh when we see and say "we ride again!. 6am pickup for the Ministers!!....always laughing...I made fun of him for always borrowing my power bank last year as his was not working when his phone ran low. We rode for 4 or 5 days 6am till the last drop off sometimes midnight or later each day. Sometimes doing 2 or 3 airport trips a day, taking our guests wherever needed. When one of our famous guests had lunch and their credit card from the U.S. did not work, John immediately pulled out his ATM card and paid N300k for their lunch. That's the type of person John was, giving selflessly and serving everyone around him cheerfully. We shook hands and said "till next year". God knew we would see each other next time in Heaven in His presence. We'll miss you bro. Rest on in God's presence and we'll ride together on those heavenly chariots!! Your bro - Jeggz.

TRIBUTE TO MY BROTHER, JOHN EZOMOH I don't even know where to start, because the name John shouldn't be mentioned in such a write-up! For over a decade, you alone made all my clothes. Oh, my wardrobe is the biggest witness. Every special outfit was you, my brother John, and I was proud to let the whole world know. I only bought polo, T-shirts, suits, chinos, jeans etc. myself, because as far as I was concerned, my personal designer was "JX" John Ezomoh. And every Experience season, you made it special for me. You made sure your Egbon stood out. It was always a special shirt for the conference day. Ah! We made sure no one else got the same, deliberately 😂 I will miss our global plans. I will miss you calling me "My Leader" or "My Egbon" and screaming "Mr. Newton!!" with that respect and smile. I will miss when I see what you're wearing and I say "John, why don't I have this?" and you reply "Boss, I will sort you" or "Boss, I will hook you up." You always sorted me. You always hooked me up. Without fail. You were more than my tailor. You were more than my fashion designer. You were my younger brother from church, a faithful colleague, humble to the core, talented beyond words. I never imagined a world where I would have to look for another person to sew for me. You made me trust you with my appearance for over ten years, because your hands were blessed. Kai, no one finishes like you, John!! John, your machine has gone silent on earth, but heaven has gained a designer. I know you are designing for angels now. Thank you for covering my body with excellence. Thank you for covering my life with brotherhood and loyalty. I love you, my brother. Rest well until we meet again to part no more. Your Egbon / Your Leader forever. Newton Ogbeide
