I'm very sorry to be writing this so late, though it almost ties in with the first anniversary, and gives me the opportunity of reading the many other tributes and memories too - which I can wholeheartedly endorse, without repeating them myself.. I met Jenny when she first visited Edinburgh City Fellowship from Wales - and she came home with me for lunch after the service! Is there something about 'entertaining angels unawares?! - she was certainly often a messenger from God in the years that followed. But she was also a special friend. Our paths met less frequently when I moved up to Inverness - but she encouraged me in this too - including by buying my house in Lasswade! One time I'm so grateful to Jenny for - is that she came to Kyrgyzstan to visit me while I was working there - a great holiday for us both, but just before the end, I had a medical incident and it worked out amazingly that Jenny was able to accompany me on the flight back to Scotland and opened her home to me for the first couple of weeks. Our times are certainly in God's hands. My last real opportunity of time together was a short holiday in Eyemouth. Jenny was indeed so dedicated to Regius School and to all the children there over the years, but she loved and prayed much for her own children too, and I'm sure the joy of grandson Ezra was one real source of blessing and perseverance in the last stages. So much more to give thanks and praise to the Lord for in Jenny, and may the many seeds you have sown still bear fruit. We trust that what is promised in 1 Peter 5 v.10 is now fulfilled even more, so I will put it into the past tense: “And after you have suffered a little while (..even though it seemed long!), the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, has himself restored, confirmed, strengthened, and established you” in heaven. Hallelujah! Amen!

I don't know where to begin or end when it comes to leaving a tribute to Jenny. We both shared the same birthday and during the years we were both at CCE, we shared a spiritual connection too that sparked life, fun, adventure and believing God for great things! I was a Regius Trustee for a while and saw, first hand, the amazing work she did for the children there, as well. She had vision, commitment, creativity, a caring heart, drive and laughed infectiously! Jenny was utterly unique... brilliant... and a bundle of energy and vitality. It's hard to take in that she is now free from her health struggles and with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ! I look forward to seeing Jenny 'in glory' at some point, and maybe the two of us can have a big birthday celebration together there! In the meantime, I will miss Jenny very much, but am grateful to her for so much. Sincere sympathy to Kirsten, Jonathan, Steve and the family circle - and a big hug for friends in Wellsprings.

What an intensely Godly, joyful and intentional life. An example to follow, inspiring faith, inextinguishable hope, compassionate, persevering through pressures. Now she has entered her reward and the fruit of her labours. Thank you Lord for Jenny.

Jenny, how do i even start to say how much this amazing woman brought to my life! Sadly, the news that she had gone came hot on the heels of the death of a young friend due to this hideous virus, so it's taken me a while to find the emotional space to face her loss, I was introduced to Jenny some fifteen years ago at a China prayer day in the Wirral, when she was preparing to leave her beloved Regius school and go to teach in China. We were drawn together by our mutual call to Christian education. Our relationship grew rapidly into a joyful friendship and fellowship as we walked through the next years in China and then back in the UK. Her love for us as a family - our kids as much as Chris and me - has sowed so much into each of our lives, so that our three kids would count her as much a friend now, in their adult lives, as a friend of their parents. She had the wonderful gift of really listening and really seeing anyone she was speaking to. Her brutal honesty helped get me back on track on more than one occasion and I will always respect her for her determination to speak the truth in love, even if the recipient didn't much welcome it. To me, she was a precious mentor in what is not a very common calling. Chris and I have built our school and helped others build theirs in China with her wise advice and prayers to sustain us. The fruit of her life goes beyond the UK. I will always miss a dear, dear friend in whom I could confide my deepest fears, hopes and struggles, knowing that she would really hear me. What a rare and precious jewel we have Had to release and return to her maker to be freed from the pain and physical suffering of many years! We would wish it could have been otherwise and that we could have kept her longer, but we know she was ready for her next chapter. I will always treasure in my heart the memory of her boundless enthusiasm and determination to do the Lord's will, wherever the cost. Her example will continue to inspire and encourage me to persevere. My heart goes out to Steven, Jonathan and Kirsten as you grieve your loss. I hope we can meet together to remember and celebrate her life properly when the present restrictions have passed xxxxx

It’s taken a few weeks before I’ve felt ready to write anything here - and I’m not sure if I am really ready! This strange time has been made all the stranger and sadder with the loss of dear Jenny. Not being able to gather with others who loved and respected her, to grieve, hug, share stories, laugh and cry is making the loss so much harder to process. I hope we will still be able to do that at some point, but for now, I share my ‘piece’ for this page. There are just some special people in this world who make an impact so large that it’s hard to adequately express it with words. Jenny was (and still is) one of those people to me and to my family. Jenny burst into our lives about 16 years ago when we made the radical decision to send our children to the school she headed up. I confess I was a little nervous about the choice. I mean ‘a Christian School’ – was it all going to be bible stories and singing Kumbaya every day?!! I didn’t completely object to either of those activities, but the education of our children was going to involve a lot more than that! Upon reading a glowing HMI inspection report and email communicating with Jenny herself I was put at ease. Little did I know that these first emails would lead to a friendship that would shape my life and the life of my family. That small school which Jenny ran, with a professionalism I’ve rarely seen anywhere else, would be the seedbed of growth and fruit in my girls lives the like of which I could only have dreamed of. This space of course is not primarily about Regius. But for those who knew Jenny during the 20 plus years she headed up the school, you will understand that Regius WAS synonymous with her. She carried such a vision and burning passion for the school, and what it meant to the children and families who went there, it was hard to talk to her without the subject turning to the school and what her latest project or revelation about it was. Jenny had an uncanny ability to really ‘see’ the children who came to her and I trusted her implicitly with my two girls. Her insights and input into their lives is still bearing fruit today. Both considered her as a mentor, a dear friend and someone who championed them and cheered them on. Even in her final days she was in communication with them, encouraging them and so delighted to hear about what they were doing. I had the privilege of knowing Jenny in a variety of ‘capacities’. Initially as the Head Teacher of the school and church friend, then in a closer friendship, for a while she was my ‘boss’ when I worked in administration and classroom assistant duties at the school, and finally the main place she held was pretty much as ‘part of the family’! Someone so dear, so easy to be with and so cherished that we all got excited when we knew she was going to visit. I loved Jenny. It’s as simple as that. I loved her way of being totally honest and unfiltered, even when she sometimes said things I’d rather not hear!! I loved her faith in God and how she talked about him - how seamless it was for her to move between the spiritual and the natural and how she wouldn’t actually see any difference between the two. I loved how she would ‘see me’ and seemed to just know when something was up, even when I was doing my best to hide it. I loved how she would listen and always be interested and happy to offer support, a wise word or a prayer. I loved how naughty she was and how sharp her wit and banter was. I can still hear that laugh of hers and it makes me smile. I loved how we could talk and talk and never seem to run out of subjects! Jenny lived an incredibly full and meaningful life and I had the greatest of respect for her. She is a women who most definitely has left a legacy. Her legacy is in her biological children, whom she so loved and enjoyed talking about with me, and of course her legacy also lives on in the many Regius children who sat under her headship. I also like to think something of her legacy lives on in people like me, friends who had the privilege of spending time with her, hearing the words of encouragement and wisdom she so easily dispensed. I learned so much from her. I learned about the importance of ‘having a word’ to live by, a sense of purpose and destiny, about having ‘no plan B’ and giving your all to the ‘Plan A’ in your life.....I could go on, but suffice to say the ‘Jenny lessons’ will live on with me for the rest of my days! The ache of loss is still with me and will be for some time I suspect. I still can’t fathom a world without Jenny in it. I see her smile, hear her voice and feel her presence still and it gives me comfort. I’m so glad I got that final visit with her.....and in the midst of the laughter I was able to stop and say ‘I’m sure I’ve said this Jenny....but I want to say it again... thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!’ It was a moment of meaning and understanding between us as I looked deep into her eyes. We’d said everything we needed to say and I could say goodbye. Jenny - my life has been irrevocably changed by having you in it. Thank you, doesn’t do it justice. I miss you so much and I do look forward to seeing you again ‘on the other side’! Till then I’ll do my best to live in a way that is honest and true to who God has made me to be – I promise!! xxx

Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind,” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-39 This was Jenny, a beautiful example to us all on how to live life. Thank you for being a sister to me, thank you for loving me, thank you for always speaking truth to me, thank you for always wanting the best for me, thank you for showing me how to love God and love my neighbour. Welcomed home to spend eternity with Jesus her Lord and Saviour. ❤️✝️
