Jane Smith Fischer

Jane Smith Fischer, a loving partner, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27th, 2024. She was in the company of her sons Fred and Neal, and her grandson Christopher. 

Born on December 6th, 1937, Jane grew up in Tecumseh, Michigan with her loving adopted parents and brother. At the age of 18,  Jane relocated to Florida and married her high school sweetheart, Bill Fischer. In 1962, Jane and Bill moved cross country to Berkeley, California with their two sons, Fred and Neal and spent the rest of their wonderful lives in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area. They would soon add a third son, Kael, several years after relocating. 

Jane's unrivaled kindness and generosity were felt by everyone who met and became close to her. She especially found happiness in young children, showering her grandchildren and great grandchildren with compassion, laughter and support. Jane's cup was truly filled seeing their creativity and growth, often times commenting that she felt comforted knowing “the world was in good hands.”

Along with her huge heart, Jane was a easy-going adventurer who loved time with good people and hearty laughter, whether among the Redwoods at Sea Ranch, at a campsite in Yosemite, with friends in Paradise, CA, or within her own home on Webster Street. Her open door belief brought people from all walks of life into her home with Bill for nearly 60 years, usually accompanied to the background music of Bob Dylan, a poet and musician for whom she felt had no equal.

Before she passed, Jane had the opportunity to see many of her grandchildren blossom into wonderfully creative adults, who all carried the same love for people and life that she instilled. She is survived by her three sons Fred, Neal and Kael Fischer, her five grandchildren Michael, Christopher, Robin, Otis and Seymour, and two great grandchildren, Amelia Jane and Elliot.
