Loved Ones

It is with the deepest of sorrow and unbearable pain that the family of Hunter James Massie sadly announces his untimely death due to medical complications on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Hunter grew up in The Woodlands, TX and was currently residing in Conroe, TX. He was a graduate of The Woodlands High School, attended the University of Oklahoma’s Architecture Program and later transferred to St. Edwards University in Austin, TX to focus on his passion for Graphic Arts and Design.

From a young age he showed amazing creative and artistic abilities that later earned him prestigious awards. He had an extreme love of music and became a gifted guitar player. His athletic abilities earned him a place on the Woodlands High School Golf Team. He enjoyed many activities that included a love for cooking/grilling/smoking delicious foods on his “Green Egg” for his family and friends. Another extreme talent was woodworking. He would envision, design, and create amazing art pieces and furniture using repurposed wood and metal. His creative vision, education, and unfailing devotion to perfection led him to excel at everything he set out to accomplish.

His professional career started at Baker One Design, where he worked summers as a Graphic Design Intern, and after college, he was offered a full-time position. He later co-founded Beyond Now Media, a graphic design business in Dallas, TX where he refined his industry skills and knowledge to include drone videography. He then proudly founded his own creative design business, Hunter James Creative. After moving back to the area to be closer to family, his career came full circle as he secured a full-time position as Art Director with Baker One Design, while continuing to work as a consultant and designer for Hunter James Creative.

On the personal side, Hunter would be described by those who knew him best as kind-hearted, funny, passionate,an animal-lover and having a deep connection and love for his friends and family. He was affectionately called HUNC by his nieces and nephews who adored him. He had a competitive nature and loved winning first place at anything whether it was a friendly family game or the Halloween costume design contest at work. He was always humble, self-effacing, and never boastful about his vast and incredible abilities. If there was ever a person who fit the expression, “I wish you could see yourself through my eyes, then you would know how amazing you are,” that was Hunter.

Our beloved Hunter will be forever missed by all those who knew and loved him dearly. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his loving Mother, Barbara Bell Massie. We take comfort in knowing that he is once again in her loving arms.

He is survived by his father, Gordon Massie of The Woodlands TX: sister Heather Massie Davis, spouse Jeremy, nephews Sam and Brooks, niece Belle of Dripping Springs, TX: brother Stewart Massie, spouse Lindsey Bradshaw Massie, nieces Hayden, Mackenzie, and Clara of Reno, NV: Aunt Anne Massie Matt, spouse Daniel of Berkley, CA: Uncle James Massie, spouse Suzie of Santa Barbara, CA: Maternal Grandmother, Catherine Bell of Orlando, FL: Uncle Bill Bell, spouse Virginia of Orlando, FL: Auntie, Carol-Lynn Ward, spouse Peter of Montgomery, TX: Uncle Dave Bell of Orlando, FL. There are also numerous cousins, colleagues, and friends across the country and his most beloved fur best friend, Charley.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Friends of Montgomery County Texas Animal Shelter. This is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving, fostering, supporting, and providing medical assistance to the animals of Montgomery County shelters, including the one where Hunter adopted his cherished rescue dog, Charley.  www.fmctas.org/how-to-help

Hi, I am trying to get in touch with Peter Ward. I am renting Hunters old house and he came by the other day to inquire about a wood shelf Hunter built that was in the kitchen. Y'all are welcome to have it and I've been trying to get in touch with him but the number he left isn't working. Feel free to contact me at any time...281-627-8843 I would love for the family to have it back!

I can only ever think of Hunter as "Huntie," when I would see him it was impossible not to think of the cute little kid running around with Blakeley on the beach, or in our backyards, and being the partner in crime that Blakeley always needed. I will always remember his quiet but constantly smiling presence. I want to share this photo of him on the beach with Blakeley because I will always remember them glued together on family vacations and so many happy family memories.

I am so truly sad to see the loss of Hunter. Another bright star lights the way in the sky. I have such fond memories of him as a little boy playing in the Snowbird neighborhood. He was a sweet and gentle person. Sending you all my heartfelt prayers to lift you up. With much love. Debora Hutchinson

I knew Hunter first as Heather's brother and feel so fortunate to have known him. He had such a good and kind heart that was evident in his love for animals and in his kindness to others. He was funny, really funny... Even when a couple college girls would come back to The Woodlands, he would always have some funny quip that would make us all laugh. He was creative beyond measure... truly his gifts in design and art were unmatched. Heather, Stewart, Gordo, sending you so much love.
