In Loving Memory

Howard J. Niederriter died on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at University Hospital Portage.

Howard was born and reared in Cleveland, Ohio and lived in the greater Cleveland area most of his life. In his later years he moved to Brady Lake, Ohio. Howard majored in business at Dyke College. He began his career in Cleveland in the family business, a bowling alley. Later in his career Howard worked as a building engineer and as a bridge inspector.

Howard had many and varied interests. Howard was a gourmet cook who enjoyed movies, poetry, and music (the latter helped to inspire his son, a talented professional jazz composer and musician). He loved both participating in and watching sports. Howard was a tournament class bowler. He fished and hunted with his father, and taught his son to fish and shoot. He was a lifelong fan of Cleveland's sports teams and many other organized sports. He was able to watch and enjoy the 2022 Winter Olympics during his final days.

Howard was devoted to his family and had lots of family to love. Howard was the son of the late Joseph and Maybelle (Heisley) Niederriter, brother of the late Carol Marie Baier, and great uncle of the late Britny and Amanda Reese. He is survived by his son, Robert Joseph; sister Connie Mykytuk; nieces and nephews Cynthia Reese Holway (Peter), Chris Reese (Michelle), Charlene Reese Rusnak (Ed), Curt Reese, Cathrine Myktuk Thauvette, Sue Baier Malphrus (Gene), John Baier (Kristen), and Jeanne Baier Dunavant (William); great nieces and nephews Laura Dixon, Dan Dixon (Claire), Emma Baier, Patrick Holway (Molly), Nikki Loveless (Mike), Kylie Lieremann (Todd) and Trevor Holway; and great greats Bayer and Charlie Dixon, Mckey and Evy Holway, Amelia and Bryson Loveless and Brady Todd. At the family's request, arrangements are private

He was my next door neighbor as a kid on Elsmere Dr. in Parma, Ohio . Used to shoot pool in his basement. One summer day he thought it would be fun to throw a cherry bomb in a dead tree stump in the woods behind our house. It didn’t blow up. That nite we were shooting pool and we heard sirens outside. The bomb might not have blown up , but it must have ignited because the stump was in flames!! Fun times.
