Biography

Ginger Kay Trowbridge was born in Okinawa, Japan on August 13, 1956. Her father was stationed there at the time, and was merely the start of her travels. She had an older sister, Debbie, and a younger brother, Mike. Her family traveled throughout the United States as she was growing up, where they finally settled in Hamilton, Montana, USA.

Her youth was well lived. As a teen in the late 60's and early 70's, Ginger was not afraid to try out and experience new things. In the late 70's, she felt the wanderlust of her youth, and she married Patrick Peterson. This is how she found a path to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Her first marriage ended after a short time, but she loved Edmonton and decided to settle for good.

Ginger connected with her in-laws, and was welcomed in by Terry and Mike Peterson while she got her bearings. She eventually put herself into the community, and was well accepted. She was also able to find out who she was, and what she wanted. To that end, she sought opportunties to educate herself.

While she took courses toward becoming a Microsoft Certified Professional, Ginger took a work experience opportunity with Messaging Direct Limited and found herself working with Kris Woeppel. There was immediate chemistry. Besides a shared belief in the Lord, Jesus Christ, as their Saviour, they enjoyed antiquing, watching movies, trying out new restaurants and caring for pets. Ginger and Kris were married less than a year later, in early 2000.

Ginger found work with the provincial government, primarily as an administrative assistant. This allowed her to also become an active union representative; an advocate for her fellow coworkers.   The AUPE posted the following on their website:  https://www.aupe.org/news/news-and-updates/aupe-mourns-loss-aupe-advocate-ginger-woeppel

Ginger had many other interests:

  • Gardening and flowers
  • Christmas
  • Personal Shopping
  • Home-based Businesses:
    • Mary Kay Cosmetics
    • Epicure
    • 3rd Party Sales: jewelry, unique clothing
  • Silversmithing
  • Shoes
  • Purses

to name a few.

One defining feature of Ginger was her love of Pomeranians. She was the proud caretaker of Poms for over 20 years. They brought her joy and comfort. She was proud to show that Poms did not have to display the negative traits often attributed to them. Poms could be disciplined and quiet, and still be playful and friendly. She sought every opportunity to educate and share her Poms with anyone and everyone.

Ginger's final years were plagued with liver disease. A family history of fatty liver resulted in a diagnosis of cirrhosis of the liver. After 2 years of treatment for ascites and other liver related issues, Ginger grew weaker and could no longer endure the treatment. Ginger passed peacefully in her sleep on the morning of January 6, 2021 at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Ginger will always be remembered as a generous, passionate, and loving person, who considered the needs of other before her own. She was a fierce friend whose light will live on in all of us who knew her. We give thanks that Ginger's burdens have been lifted and that we have the privilege for having known her in our lifetimes.

God bless you and keep you.

I will always remember the last Christmas feast she prepared as a kind gesture for her co-workers, she supplied enough food for 200 people. She was a generous person. My condolences.

I remember being a very young little girl when I met my Aunt Ginger. She had these glorious rings on her fingers that mesmerized me. Long beautiful hair that she let me curl and play with for hours. Always a smile and patience for miles. As I teen I turned to her, and she to me, for open communication and plenty of laughs. I was so happy to hear when she married Kris but sadly only saw her twice afterwards. Life may have taken us to different directions and purposes but she was and will always be part of who I am. The love remains. My condolences to Kris and her family.

It was such a shock to hear about Ginger’s passing. She was such an integral part of our lives for so many years. We supported each other through so many life events during those years. Had many laughs, played a lot of cards, did some camping and many family holidays spent together. She was a much loved aunt to our children. As life evolved, our paths took different directions and we lost touch. I will always be grateful for having known and loved Ginger. She is now with the angels. Kris, you were the answer to many prayers and you did not disappoint. May your memories and God’s love carry you forward.
