Geraldine Elizabeth Black Vigil passed away peacefully on April 23, 2024 after a lengthy illness. She was born on December 11, 1954 to Irene Martinez-Stewart(†) and Gilbert Black in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She met and fell in love with Allen Vigil, and together they built a beautiful home in Taos, NM. They were married for 44 years.

Together they brought 6 children into this world. First, there were five girls: Ariana (Paul), Jenina(Sean), Natalia, Alicia (Jake), Alanna (Damon); until finally her baby boy Marcos. They also helped to raise their first grandchild Briana. She was a proud Nana and protector of all seven of her grandbabies; Briana, Evan, Adelina, Allen-John, Sloane, Matilda, and Sebastian. Even in her last days, she prayed for every single one of her children and grandchildren, and missed her Allen, dearly.

She was a natural caregiver and was arguably the most patient, selfless, and kind human we have been blessed to have known. These are just some of her many traits that made her a devoted wife, mother, daughter, godmother, sister, auntie, and grandmother. She had a loving fondness for her siblings, including sisters Glenna (Stephen), Jackie (Roger), and brothers, Gilbert Jr., Ronnie, Norbert, and Marty(†). She was a loving daughter to her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bences(†) and Fabiola(†) Vigil, and sister to brothers-in-law, James(†)(Gloria), Jerome (Kitty), Mario (Carla), Keith (Liz).

She was not one to flaunt her religion, but she was a deeply spiritual Catholic woman and always sought to instill this faith in her children. We will lift her up to be with her beloved, Allen and pray that she has found peace and comfort. She leaves behind a legacy of gracefulness, and a void that will be impossible to fill.

Rosary will be recited at St. Francis Church on May 1, 2024 at 9am.

Funeral Mass at 10am at St. Francis Church. Interment to follow.

Ariana , Jenina, Natalia, Alicia, Alanna, and Marcos. I am extremely fortunate to have known you all on a personal level, being from the South. Ubuntu-the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity. It’s salient, as that’s what comes to mind regarding Geri. One of a kind. Beautiful on the outside coupled with Beautiful on the inside. What an astonishing woman. What a phenomenal life. I feel so fortunate that Geri was part of our family, as she is a great mentor/model (not to mention, she looked like a Model)/example and fun person to be around. We, here in Cruces are Celebrating the life of Geri, as she continues to live with us in Spirit! Allow her Brilliant Personality to emit light through all of you, as she “Shine bright like a diamond”!
