We (Orrin Carhart and I, his then wife) shared many a meal with Dot and Jerry at the dome home in Onalaska. On special occasions, such as Beth's birthday or Dan's being home, we played UNO with uproarious laughter. Other times we just enjoyed a great meal and happy conversation. We traveled to Vancouver BC with Dot and Jerry to see Phantom of the Opera. At rest stops, Jerry would high step around the car to get the circulation going again. Such a fun image to remember. I still have and use Dot's so tasty Date Nut Torte and Friendship Muffin recipes. I have often spoke of her to new friends -- how I could imagine her walking beside a wagon train across the entire US. She just had that kind of pioneer perseverance about her. Although we lost touch in the last 20 years, I have held them in my heart. May they rest gently in the arms of the Lord they served for all their lives.
