**In Loving Memory of Mr. George Akira Mori (1942–2025)** It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mr. George Akira Mori, who departed this life on July 10, 2025, in Ottawa, Ontario. Born on July 14, 1942, in Vancouver, British Columbia, George was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all who knew him. He leaves behind his beloved daughters, Jasmin (Bill) and Cynara Mori, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Will, Elise, Julian, and Mateo. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Elaine Kimura and Rick Mori.

George was respected for his esteemed career as a statistician at Statistics Canada, where he made valuable contributions to the National Census, particularly in the Religion and Education sections. His analytical mind was not just limited to his professional achievements; it paralleled his deep-seated interests in an array of subjects, including theology, mythology, and philosophy. A passionate reader and an ardent collector of rare books, George delighted in exploring the narratives that shaped human thought, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to knowledge.

A man of kindness, generosity, and loyalty, George’s character shone brightly in every interaction. His warmth was felt deeply by his family and friends, and he was renowned for his considerate nature. In his twilight years, he found joy in visiting the scenic town of Peterborough with his daughters and grandchildren. Together, they explored treasured locations, including the Canoe Museum and Petroglyphs, forging memories that his family will cherish forever. George's adventurous spirit led him to faraway lands, as he traveled extensively throughout Japan, Europe, Africa, and South America, with a dream journey to the stunning Galapagos Islands. These experiences enriched his life and deepened his appreciation for diverse cultures and landscapes.

In memory of George, the family invites those who wish to honor him to consider making donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Toronto Buddhist Church, or the Queensway Carleton Hospital. His legacy of kindness and intellect will continue to resonate within those he touched. As we gather our thoughts and fond memories of George Akira Mori, let us remember the man who, through his life, exemplified the virtues of understanding and compassion. He will be greatly missed but forever celebrated in our hearts.

I have so many special memories of our dear Uncle George -- us little kids trekking around Toronto in your minivan (we went everywhere! mini golfing, shopping, Ontario Place), interviewing him for a school assignment, watching the fireworks on Parliament Hill -- We shared many happy days together. In recent years, when he came to Markham, he was always genuinely interested in what was happening at the CBC. He had so many good questions, asked with warmth and a twinkle in his eye. We will miss him dearly and are so thankful to have had him in our lives.

I'll always cherish the memories of George. Spending time with George and the rest of the family at Christmas was always such a joy. When I was living on my own-George used to call to check in and catch up with me. He would generously bring lunch to share with me, knowing financially I had been struggling. He'd share insights and advice with so much care and consideration to me as an individual. His kind and thoughtful nature was filled with empathy, he was a good friend to me that I will never forget. I hope his kind nature lives on through us all. My heart goes out to your whole family, I know he loves you all very much.

George was a big brother to me in many ways. I have many memories of him encouraging me and challenging me to be the best I could be. If ever I needed his help, I knew I could count on him to be there for me. We were always very competitive with each other playing sports. He was the one who suggested I go into Engineering at University and that was great advice that not many people would have seen in me. He was a deep thinker and even though I may have disagreed with some of his beliefs, I always respected that he came to those beliefs after extensive research in the matter. I will sorely miss having a him keeping me informed about the activities of my nieces, Jasmin and Cynara and their families.

George was always such a generous and thoughtful person. When we were kids, I remember your dad taking us to all the museums in Ottawa, and when you visited Toronto, he’d take us shopping all over the city. Even as we grew up, he remained generous, treating us to dinner and always happy to watch the kids so we could catch up. He was very considerate. I think almost every time he visited my mom, he’d bring good cheese from a cheese factory he passed on the way to Toronto because he knew everyone liked it. I also really appreciated how open-minded and curious George was. Like my dad, when George got into something, he dove in with full gusto and truly enjoyed it. I'm hoping he finally got to find out who killed JFK and uncover the secrets of the Vatican, now that he’s passed over—lol. George will be deeply missed, and I’m so grateful to have known him. Sending love to both you girls, Kirsten, Billy, Allan, and all the kids.
