Really sad to hear the news. My condolences to all the family and hope they are good as can be. - David Carr Dear Angela, I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your beloved mother-in-law, Mrs. Elise Naomi Grant. Please accept my heartfelt condolences, and kindly extend the same to dear Oba. My thoughts and prayers are with you both at this difficult time. Meeting Mama Elise remains one of my fondest memories. When I visited Trinidad and Tobago with my dear brother, Shabaka, she welcomed us with such effortless warmth, grace, and generosity that I immediately understood where he inherited his depth of character. She received me not as a stranger, but as family. Her home radiated kindness, dignity, and the quiet strength of a remarkable matriarch. That memory has stayed with me through the years and will continue to do so. Today, as we mourn Mama Elise, I cannot help but also remember her beloved son, my dear friend and brother, Shabaka. It is comforting to believe that mother and son are reunited in eternal peace. May their memories remain a source of comfort, inspiration, and enduring love to all who were privileged to know them. Angela, I pray that God grants you and Oba the strength, courage, good health, peace of mind, and prosperity to navigate this season of loss and the journey ahead. Though words can never fully ease the pain of such partings, may you find comfort in the extraordinary legacy of love, resilience, and family that Mama Elise leaves behind. Rest in perfect peace, Mama Elise. Rest in perfect peace, my dear brother, Shabaka. With deepest sympathy and affection, Teju Your “Aburo mi,” as Shabaka would always call me. My deepest condolences to you and your family during this difficult time. May the Lord continue to bless, strengthen, and keep you all, granting you comfort, peace, and healing in the days ahead. You are in my thoughts and prayers. - Franklyn Mitchell Greetings Aunty, This is very sad news I want to offer our deepest condolences from Mum and I. Donna Dove
My name is Donna Dove and I met Mammy Elise through her children Earl, Shabaka and Verna, immediately she reminded me of my Mother, she had the same bold face attitude that I so love in Caribbean women, Mammy was real, a no nonsense type of woman with no filters, telling you exactly how she felt about you and anything and everyone around you, when Verna and Shabaka transitioned she comforted me and called me “The Cryer”lol, before I left to come back to NY, I visited her and took soup so we can have lunch, as usual she showed me all the pictures on the wall and repeated her life long stories about her children and grandkids, I listened very patiently, she was beautiful she was feisty, she was raw and she was my adopted mother in Trinidad, I will miss her dearly and yes “The Cryer” is crying as she writes this text, I love and will miss you Mammy Elise, travel well😘👍🏾🙏🏾♥️🌹

I have known Elise my entire life. She worked for my grandfather, so when we visited him, she was there to make a fuss over us grandchildren. Even after my grandfather passed away when I was 9, Elise continued to be a constant in my life, as every Saturday she would come to iron for our family, something she did for an additional 20 years. Looking back, I can truly say that Elise was my first adult friend. As a child she listened to me, and we would laugh together and talk about The Young and the Restless, Elise filling me in on what I had missed each particilar week when I was at school. She would make sugar cake and coconut bake especially for me and even though it might not be true, I always felt as though I was Elise's favourite. She was the only person in the world who called me "Rhe Rhe" and I loved her dearly. I am so grateful that I was able to spend a day with her last February on a last minute trip home. Elise will always hold a special place in my heart; may she rest in peace - Rhea Sandiford
