"Nobody ever had a rainbow until he had the rain"
Dr. Edward John Sekol, or as his friends would like to call him – Lucky Eddie, was a man of many talents, passions, and interests, born on April 16, 1955. His life was a delightful blend of science, adventure, and humor.
Ed, as he was fondly called married his soul mate Darlene in 1977, marking the beginning of an incredible journey. A man of intellect and curiosity, he dipped his toes into the realm of Microbiology, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in 1979. Not one to stop there, he plunged headlong into the healing arts, securing a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Sherman College of Chiropractic in 1983. He was not just a doctor; he was a healer.
In 1984, he moved to Traverse City, a city that was soon to be blessed by his healing hands. He took over Cherryland Chiropractic Centre, transforming it into a beacon of wellness and comfort. Between realigning backs and necks, he found time to welcome two daughters into the world, in 1985 Lisa and 1989 Rachelle. Not only was he a wonderful father but he became an amazing grandfather to his grandson Jax and his granddaughter Vera Liana as well. He absolutely LOVED being "grampie".
When not donning the chiropractor’s coat or one of his many crazy ties from his tie collection, Ed was a bonafide adventurer. He loved hunting, snowmobiling, vintage cars and was not averse to a fishing rod either! He also had a knack for making friends with his playful personality. Many people were the object of his pranks. If you found a pinecone in your shoes or a fart machine under your chair Ed was likely the culprit!
Ed had a love and passion for life! His interests were diverse, from stargazing in his backyard to building his cabin in the U.P., from seeking new adventures to making jelly with his elderly lady friends. Ed's love for learning new things was insatiable.
Edward Sekol was not just a man; he was a memory, a chuckle, a series of stories, and a ray of warmth that ceased to exist on November 18, 2023. The legacy he leaves behind is one of joy, laughter, and the power of healing. His spirit lives on in the hearts of his family, his patients, and the community of Traverse City. His life was indeed an adventure, and boy did he live it well!
