Charles Mills
February 19th, 1953 - October 25th, 2023
February 19th, 1953 - October 25th, 2023
Our wonderful dad Charlie Mills sadly passed on the 25th of October. He was incredibly well known and well liked. We have setup this page for you to leave a short memory or story about him.
In his memory we are fundraising for a new haemodialysis machine for Alder Hey Childrens hospital. Our sister died from a rare kidney disease so being able to fund a machine in his memory would mean a lot to us - https://tinyurl.com/522yvjjw

Mike & Debbie
We have lost a truly great friend. I still can't believe he won't be joining us in the Cross House for our Tuesday pint. He and Debbie were cricket fanatics and spent many hours discussing the sport. He took my gentle ribbing about being a "blue" with amused resignation and a raised eyebrow. A truly kind and generous soul, rest in peace Charlie.

I worked with Charles for many years as a fellow Director at Witherslack. Charles had such amazing presence and gravitas. When Charles spoke, only a fool didn’t hang on his every word. Everything he did had the best interests of young people at its heart. We remained good friends even after Charles created Olsen House School, which quickly became high quality competition. The SEN sector has lost a great proponent and a real star. I will miss his wise counsel. My thoughts are with the whole Mills family at this time.
Justin Waller
For the time before, during and after I spent playing cricket in Formby, Charlie welcomed me with open arms. I always respected and looked up to him. I admired his generosity, passion and loyalty in things he cared about - I still remember the look he gave me when I said I supported Everton because they were more of an underdog than Liverpool! (sorry). What a champion. I, and we, will miss him.
Charles Morgan
I have very fond memories of Charlie in London from 1977, when he was sharing "interesting" accommodation in Islington with Steve Alston (and ardently wooing Steve's sister Liz by telephone). We enjoyed an occasional game of squash at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall. I remember being particularly struck by what seemed to me to be his uncharacteristically snazzy patent leather effect squash bag. Having heard so much at the funeral yesterday about Charlie's exploits with Formby CC, I am sorry never to have played cricket with him. I am particularly sadr not to have seen more of him and his family after his return to his roots. It was wonderful, though, to witness at his funeral so much love and respect for him and a life well lived. May he and Sarah rest in peace and rise in glory.

My son, Justin Waller, played for Formby in 2009 on a cricket scholarship from Cricket NSW (Sydney, Australia) . Charlie was a great mentor for Justin. He regularly communciated with us on Justin's progress on the cricket field (especially after a good innings by Justin). When we visited Formby during that period he made available a property in Liverpool for our accommodation. During a visit to Sydney a few yars later we had the pleasure of dining with Charlie and family. We had the utmost respect and admiration for Charlie. This is a very sad loss. Our sincere condolescnes to Tom and the whole family.

He was a true inspiration for me and someone who I have looked up to in all my time at Formby CC. He will be so dearly missed ❤️
