On Monday, October 10, 2022, Charles Buxton, loving husband and devoted father of two, passed away peacefully with family at his side at age 73.

Charles was born in 1949 to Charles and Margaret Buxton in Fayetteville, Arkansas. They later moved to Richardson, Texas, where Charles graduated from Richardson High School in 1967.

Married on October 13, 1979, Charles shared 43 years of happiness with the great love of his life, Barbara. Together in River Oaks, TX, they raised their two children, Ry and Tasha, as the most dedicated and caring parents. A fun and playful father, he was affectionately referred to as "Baba".

An avid music lover, Charles’ store management career started with Peaches Records and spanned more than 40 years. At 6393 Camp Bowie Blvd, Charles created an environment of lifelong friendship among co-workers and employees.

After his retirement in 2019, Charles funneled his lifelong passions into the causes that were important to him by attending marches, rallies and writing letters advocating for economic, environmental, racial and social justice.

Charles always had a kind word for the people in his life and was a reliable source for sound advice, encouragement or just a sympathetic ear. His generous and thoughtful presence had a positive impact on everyone, whether you were a co-worker, family, friend - or one of the many birds or feral cats that Charles diligently cared for in his back yard.

Charles found joy by listening to great music, watching movies with Barbara, eating PB&J sandwiches on homemade bread, adventuring to new restaurants to celebrate his birthday, but above all, spending quality time with his family and friends.

Charles was best known for his generous spirit, thoughtfulness and kindness. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their children, Ry and Tasha, daughters-in-law, Natalie and Sam, his sister, Carolyn Fraley, sister-in-law Jan O’Dell and husband Ken, and his nieces and nephews. Please share a memory or condolence of Charles by commenting below.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ACLU, KERA, Planned Parenthood or Operation Kindness. A celebration of life has been planned for October 22, 2022 - please contact a family member for details.

Charles, thank you for being the manager, man, friend that you were. I'm saddened to hear of your passing. You made the world a better place. If asked to think of a good person, one of the people who comes to mind is Charles Buxton. I was lucky to work for Charles at Sound Warehouse for six plus years. Despite me not knowing near as many classical composers as I thought I did, he hired me anyway. The years there with Charles and those I call the “Sound Warehouse crew” will always hold a special place in my heart. I have so many fond memories of Charles. Some that leap to mind and make me smile are Charles… • Sitting at a makeshift desk by the window in the Sound Warehouse cassette area drinking coffee while making the schedule for the week and doing other paperwork. • Walking around Sound Warehouse with a clipboard. • Measuring floor space for a display by stepping off the area - no tape measure needed. • Telling me to go get him a left-handed Phillips screwdriver. • Visiting and laughing with fellow employees and customers. • Implementing a lottery system to allow his employees a chance at the promotional items sent to the store. He could have taken them for himself, but he didn't. He shared them. • Eating at Hedary’s with him and his family (Ry, you were right, that chicken dish was good!). But more that these, I remember Charles being a kind and accepting man who cared about the world and about me as a person. Some of the things he told me are still with me today. Two, which I tell my kids in not so many words are, "Trust that voice inside; it's usually right and saying something for a reason," and "You might not be doing this for the rest of your life, but you're doing it now, so do it well." I've had other jobs since working for Charles at Sound Warehouse, but I think he is and will always be my manager. Barbara, Ry, Natasha - you and your loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers.

From Ken Odell: You were a great Brother-in-law. You made Holidays something to anticipate. And Holidays were not easy for me--raised as a Jehovah's Witness--but you always made me feel welcome in your home. Thank you, I am eternally grateful. But I am even more grateful for something else, something not Holiday related. You saved my job: You took time from your own work--your job--to advise me about a dilemma I was having at my job. I was about to refuse to sign an employee evaluation because I considered it very unfair. This could cost me my job. Your vast experience--and wisdom--re. workplace relations saved the day. You showed me how to "hoist them by their own petard"...Well, actually, you told me exactly what to say, word for word...only much later did I realize why, and how, it was such a powerful and purposeful response. It saved the day, and it saved my job. And, who knows, it may have saved me from living alone, under a bridge, for the rest of my days. Instead, I will live the rest of my days in gratitude--and missing you--my Brother-In-Law.

Charles, it is going to be pretty much impossible for me to accept that you are gone. So probably I'm not going to even try. I'll still post things on Facebook directed to you and a few friends as I have done from the beginning. Back at the start, decades ago now, you were like a third parent to me and I thank you for that. Your kindly and resolute demeanor will stand as a testament to how great a regular person leading a regular life can be. I won't forget you.

When it came to Sound Warehouse, I knew Charles in two different ways, a record store consumer and a record rep from EMI. Charles was an amazing person to work with and always saw the lighter side of things. A while back, Charles’ name came up while I was at Panther City Vinyl and I’m grateful Dan Lightner shared with me that I might be able to reconnect with him at Half Price Books. It was great to walk in, reintroduce myself and see that great smile on his face. What a great human being!! I’m so thankful that Charles was part of my journey! All of you are in my thoughts and prayers. RIP.
