Dear friends and family, We would like to honor one of our local superheroes, in the hopes that remembering her; what she cared about, and what she lived for, will help us all to become in some small measure, local superheroes in our families, neighborhoods and beyond to keep her memory alive as we live out her dreams for a better future. What does it take to be a real superhero? It takes someone who's not afraid to touch the untouchable, to love the unlovable, and to fight for the losing cause even if she's the only one standing for it, until good wins in the end. It takes someone who can be counted on to do the right thing, even without the super suit, and ultimately, it takes someone who is willing to lay their life down for their friends. Catherine was all these things and more to family, neighbors, friends, community and her beloved city of Dublin. Some people can change an entire city, because their love knows no bounds, and has no measure, we believe today, Catherine is that person. She was the Super Mom of all super moms, the one to inspire us to love our children, to hug them a little longer, to organize that campout for our best friends, to bring the neighborhood together, and to fight for the oppressed, all while wearing the latest fashions and bringing my daughter birthday cake when we were moving. She came from a family of immigrant parents from South Korea who taught her to work hard and smart, to never stop learning, and to always hold onto faith, hope and love. She was known for being the life of a party, neighborhood, community and school district and campaigning tirelessly for the cause of the underserved, forgotten and oppressed. While she beat the odds against cancer several years, ago, we believe we were blessed with several more years of her tireless love, and small and big acts of kindness to serve others in ways that are too immeasurable to count. We also think she left this earth like a true superhero, out like a flash, and on to a much better place. A place where she is probably tirelessly campaigning for all of us here, whether in person or online so that the best will be done in our lives on earth and into forever. Catherine, we love you and will miss you terribly, but it is with collective faith that we let go of you, knowing that you left exactly the way you lived your life: with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. We know you are up in heaven now, being the real superhero we have always known you to be. We pray today that all of us, would carry a fire in our hearts, in Catherine's memory that would show us how to keep her legacy going into eternity. Her family; her husband William, son Thomas, daughter Natalie, Father Reverend Frank, Step Mom Lisa, Mom Terry, and myself, her sister Anita all want to thank you for your outpouring of love and support. It has come like an ocean in a place where the desert of our grief seemed ready to consume us. Please share your thoughts, photos, wishes and prayers for the family in the "Memories and Condolences" section of this site. May God bless you all.

Thank you Catherine for the impact and devotion to those around you and beyond. I never met you but I heard nothing but goodness from my wife and our community about you throughout your time on Earth. You shaped the lives of many as a bright star. Happy Birthday in heaven from another born on the same day you were.

I first met Catherine when I started attending UPC back in 1992. I recall watching her serve regularly on the worship team with other people like William. I enjoyed her gift of music through her singing and body worship. Victor and I were honored when she sang a Song of Dedication at our wedding. In the Spring of 2017, on the way to the Bay Area for a college tour, we visited Catherine and William at their home in Dublin. Catherine and William were a delightful couple, full of joy and hospitality. She shared how she had been called to start an Asian American Parents group in the East Bay. Catherine was truly a loving mom; she nurtured and shared in her children's interest enthusiastically. One fun story is that Catherine had captured a praying mantis and other critters for her children to enjoy as their pets. Catherine was a warm, loving and sincere person. We will treasure the wonderful memories of all that Catherine stood for and use those memories as an inspiration for us to express more loving-kindness toward those around us.

I knew Catherine from our UCLA Agape days. Here is Catherine bellowing out a tune in the middle of Bruin Plaza with her band. This picture captures her spirit and love for God. She was a talented singer, bassist, and violinist. She was always so giving of her time and self. I can still hear her laugh. She always carried on the most interesting conversations in our small groups and was so free and open with her thoughts. Fun fact for her kids: I still remember she had the best clothing collection with each outfit carefully zipped up in a garment bag in her closet. At one point, she had the coolest car magazine collection too! I am heartbroken and in disbelief at a life that has touched so many and ended too short. My sincerest condolences to William, Thomas, and Natalie. She was a wonderful person! May her warm memories turn our tears into smiles.

I am still waiting to be woken from this nightmare. After a friendship of more than 20 years how can you be gone? You called me your "old pair of shoes" because we could let down our guard and just be ourselves when we interacted. You were the friend who I'd accept texts from in the middle of the night, and someone who would show up in a moment's notice if needed. You helped pull me out of a pit of darkness years ago and were my constant advocate. I look forward to seeing you again which I know will happen in heaven when we get to sing side by side again.
