Benton Alexander Turner

September 17th, 2000 - December 8th, 2020

Benton was not long on this earth, only 20 years, but lived life to the fullest. From a young age, he was an adventurer, always seeking the next opportunity to explore. He participated in many sports including baseball, swimming, diving, hiking, snowboarding, skateboarding, skimboarding, and surfing. From a young age, he loved the ocean. Upon our move to Hawaii, he embraced the surfer lifestyle. His smile was contagious and genuine. That smile, with his squinty eyes, made a connection to all around him. He was a true friend to everyone. He taught us so much about living-to live in the moment and be truly present with those around him. Benton was a sophomore at the University of Kentucky studying kinesiology. His career goal was to become an athletic trainer, because of his love of sports. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. This brotherhood became the centerpiece of his University of Kentucky experience. In lieu of flowers, a Go Fund Me has been set up to honor his life. With the funds raised, a foundation will support interests close to his heart. As a teenager, Benton participated in numerous mission trips with church; the last two mission trips were to Belize through Pathlight International. There, he helped build a school and tutor children. The foundation will provide opportunities for children to attend high school with the hope of ending the cycle of poverty. Sports were also a mainstay of Benton's life. Additional funding will grant students at Henry Perrine Baldwin High School opportunities to participate in swimming and diving. https://www.gofundme.com/f/ wudnj-remembering-benton- turner

Thinking of you all dearly. Benton was truly such a light in this world. Growing up in the same community as him and spending time with Benton on mission trips, he taught me and inspired me beyond measure. Benton treated people with kindness and love like I have never seen. In Belize, the children would be ecstatic to see Benton every morning, rightfully so. He seemed to be able to connect with every person around him, regardless of age or any apparent difference, lovingly and flawlessly, something truly unique and that inspired me. He made everyone in his presence feel loved and accepted, something that always seemed to brighten any stressful morning in Belize. His calm and loving spirit always brought peace to those around him. He brought people together and made all those around him feel welcomed. Seeing how much he inspired and affected me in our little time together, I can only begin to imagine how many lives he touched. He will undoubtedly live on through all those that he touched, as it seemed that each person he met was changed by him. I have always been inspired by Benton's loving presence and honestly have changed the way that I live because of him. He always has been and always will be an inspiration to me. Your family is such a blessing to this world and I am holding you all close to my heart.

Dear Turner Family, We are so heartbroken to read about your loss. We pray that you find comfort. Benton and Nick became fast friends. Meeting at a local triathlon meet at around 9 years old, they developed a friendship. They would find each at random places such as at a school field trips or trips to the park. And each time the boys would light up recognizing a friendly face. As luck would have it, the two boys joined the swim team and from time to time they would spend the night at each others houses. We will always remember how kind hearted, outgoing, athletic and friendly Benton was. He was a great friend to Nick. We miss him and will remember he gifts of friendship he gave to Nick. Sending you lots of love, the Ashby Family
