Barbara’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure and she was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
In Memory of Barbara Reid Findeisen March 12, 1928 to October 2, 2021 This page was created to help bring together the memories and shared experiences with Barbara Reid Findeisen. The result will be a rich tapestry of stories, writings and photos, preserved for all who loved Barbara to see for years to come. Barbara’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure and she was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. “Okey dokel – here we go”.
One runs out of superlatives when speaking of Barbara Reid Findeisen. Our dear friend, confidant, life coach, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and yellow lab lover crossed over on October 2, 2021 at the age of 93. Barbara’s inquisitive mind, ever-present enthusiasm and eternal hope for helping to make a better future for all, was exhibited through her creation and love of STAR, Pocket Ranch, Kenyon Ranch and at times, teaching A Course in Miracles, as only Barbara could. Born in Los Angeles, CA., she grew up a true California girl. She was a child actor and performer in her young years. Her Mother Helen Hollingsworth Reid was a talented seamstress who conjured up unique costume designs for young Barbara to perform in. Barbara’s father William Thomas Reid II, worked as a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department working the “Chinatown beat”. Barbara had an older brother Bill (Wm. T. Reid III), her “protector,” as she referred to him, and a sister Wanda, (Koskinen, Radcliff). Wanda strongly encouraged Barbara to attend Stanford after graduating from Franklin High School in Los Angeles, CA. She was accepted and so began her adventure and new life as a college student in northern California where she resided for over 50 years. Barbara met Charles, “Chuck”, Findeisen and they married upon her graduation from Stanford. She became an elementary school teacher and had three children over the course of ten years; David Reid Findeisen, Mark Jacques Findeisen, and Lisa Jean Griffen. Her love of flower arranging came from her home-based floral business she had when her children were very young. She juggled, teaching, her busy commercial flower business that serviced corporate building lobbies and medical office clients, and of course raising children and managing their home.
While Barbara regaled her transformative years in her 40’s as her “awakening”, these were the years she went back to school to become a therapist and began practicing therapy. This is where my narrative takes a hard turn in the road as I have no history with Barbara for the next 46 years, other than what my Dad shared with me and what I have read. So, you see, while I had the first 13 years of my life with Barbara, we did not reconnect until Barbara’s brother “Billy”, my Dad, crossed over in January of 2008. Barbara and I more than made up for lost time these past 13 years. Our time together was often, and a blessing for each of us. There were adventures to be had, workshops to give, family stories and traditions to be shared and photographs to identify.
This is where all of you, dear friends and family, are needed to recreate those years by regaling your stories and experiences and feel free to post photos, memories and videos. Barbara said often that, “friendships are like jewels on a necklace, polished over time to become beautiful and enduring”. Barbara too had many facets that glittered and sparkled and illuminated for all to see in countless captivating ways. The fact remains that we are all energetically tied to Barbara’s spirit forever. I met Barbara when she was working in Palo Alto in 1983. I ended up going to a STAR workshop with her in Stockholm that completely transformed my life. I continued to work with her throughout my life as much as I could, my last times being down in AZ—such a wonderful place. Barbara was such a uniquely wonderful woman. I came to her as a deeply wounded person and she made me feel loved. I will never forget her for that. God bless her wherever she is.

I met Barbara at STAR in April of 2001 never knowing over the next 20 years the profound effect she would have on my life. At the time I lived in Wisconsin and her in California. Fast forward three years and we were both living in Arizona which gave me the opportunity to spend time with her and Charlie. It never mattered what was going on in my life after my visits with her I felt better and could see things more clearly. Barbara was the best listener I ever met in my life. When you were talking to her she was completely present - something very much lost on society today. I miss her and our visits. She was the best. Kim Shipway

I loved her. In fact, before meeting Barbara, I’d never been able to love much at all—maybe a dog or two, but that was about it. I lacked trust and faith and was so guarded all the time. But that was finally cracked open when I met her and did STAR. She had integrity—of the heart and soul. She saw the goodness in people and knew anything else came from pain and lack of love, and also from fear. She saw the paradigm of fear I, and so many others, lived in and from, and she let her light shine such that the fear could be acknowledged and begin to melt away. Her heartfelt presence helped fear-based hearts relax a little bit, breathe a little bit, and show up a little bit. At least that’s how it was for me. She just had this light in her, and faith in humankind. No pretense, no gimmicks, no mental gymnastics. Just heartfelt presence. And a great, fun-loving kid inside who loved to dance and sing Broadway tunes, and play scrabble, and loved people, and dogs. Thank you Barbara so much. I love you.

I was just checking how to spell Barbara's name as I wrote about her in my upcoming book, OnFatAndFaith.com and I found out she had passed. I still have this marvelous Black dancer in Haitian outfit dancer ornament that she sent me, along with a heart rattle and her abolone big shell she used in pipe ceremonies in my livingroom. I love her still. It saddens me that the folks who know me (Facebook mostly) did not tell me she had transformed. No one is perfect but I will always be grateful to her for my STAR the last one in Northern Calif., the pink bear she gave me who still rides in the backseat of my car, strapped in for safety, the Atlanta workshops and the STAR reunion at Kenyon Ranch and our correspondence since we met. Barbara and I first met at the 1983 at the 1st International Congress on Pre- and Peri-natal Psychology in Toronto. After that we collaborated frequently on building the Association which we were both committed to. One of the best times we had together was when we attended a ISPPP conference in Moscow. We would have dinner in the same restaurant three days in a row without so much as a friendly, "nice to see you again" from the surly staff. Whenever I would meet Barbara subsequently, she would reminisce with pleasure of our adventures in Russia. Barbara was, first and foremost, a wonderful human being, caring and kind. She was also a great ambassador for APPPAH and helped out financially, when we were in dire financial straights. We shall miss your smile and your positive energy. We shall miss you in our lives.
