Barbara Jean (Valence) Pratt, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, was called to be with the angels on July 22, 2020 in Goodyear, Arizona, after a difficult battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on March 26, 1938 in Johnson City, New York, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Valence. In her youth she was a bit of a mischief-maker, but she always valued education. After graduating from St. Cyril Academy High School in Danville, Pennsylvania, where she was elected class president all 5 years, she attended Wilson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and Syracuse University on scholarship. She excelled in her nursing career and later in real estate. But her real devotion and passion was to her family—especially her children and grandchildren. She loved being everywhere they were, enjoyed everything they did, and cherished being a part of their lives. If there was a game, a performance, or any important moment, no matter how far or the sacrifices required, she made sure she was there to be a part of it. She truly lived the ideals she instilled in her family: Always be a giving person. Live for people, because if you live for yourself you’ll always be alone. There is nothing more important than family. Barbara truly lived for her family, and she was never alone. She made sure the people she loved knew just how much, and that they would never doubt that. She gave to others selflessly, and loved unconditionally. She saw herself as a gypsy. Always up for an adventure, a trip, or a visit to loved ones. And that vagabond spirit endeared her deeply to us all. She was predeceased by her husband, Anton T. Pratt Jr.; her son, Phillip; and her daughter, Lynne Kurutz. She is survived by her son, Anton T. Pratt III; daughter-in-law, Diane Pratt; grandchildren Dayne, Tarin, and Tynan Pratt and Michael and Evan Kurutz; her sister Mary Ann (Valence) Browning; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

It has been many, many years since I have seen Barbara. I just found out today that she passed and I feel such an ache. She was truthfully, the best of the best and kind and I will never, ever forget her. She was always full of love and compassion and loved her husband and then her family with Tom. I will never forget how great of a human being she is. Rest In Peace my dear Cousin. Carol Formanek Connors.

It seems odd that I don't have a specific memory of Mrs. Pratt, considering I was a fixture in their house from the 4th grade on. Here was this woman, always present, always gracious, always kind, and happy to be right behind the scene. I remember food. Lots and lots of food. As Anton mentioned in his wonderful tribute, she really was at EVERY game we played all through school. She found such joy in it and it was obvious to everyone. I just really liked her so much and I will miss her. I'm with you Tom and Diane and all of you and I truly share in your loss. Peace. Fred

For those of you that may not know, I lost my Mom last week. If you know my family, you know my Pop was damn tough. What you may not realize, is my Mom was tougher. While he certainly earned every bit of his reputation for fearlessly battling unfathomable, unfair setbacks and daily challenges, there were days when he was just not up to being his best, or even trying for that matter. On those days, she was his best. She was his best every day. On days when Lynne and I weren’t at our best, she was our best. And it was that way for her with so many people in her life. She taught me obligation, sacrifice, and family, all the while modeling unconditional love. I know her constant worry that she could do more to make something better or easier for someone in her family. She transferred that to me. So I know that she will always be a part of me. If you were part of my life, she made sure you knew that you were going to be part of hers too. I don’t see her resting in peace. That was not her style. She was a terrible sleeper. So I just can’t picture her relentless spirit at rest. She’s all around us. I feel it throughout my family, and I know she lives in so many she touched throughout her life. For that, she would be humbled, thankful and proud. Because most of all, she simply wanted to go everywhere, and be everywhere, with those she loved. Now she does.

Sorry to you and your family for the loss of your mom. I loved your mom. She was always so calm and full of love. She had a wisdom about her that made you listen and respect all she said. But most of all, she always fed us all great food. Hell, we spent a lot of time at your house, and she always put up with all the bullshit that teenage boys bring to the world like a champ. She certainly loved you and Lynne to no end, and went way above and beyond being super mom for you. Everyone who knew her has an ache in the center of their chest today. Love you bud.

Though I hadn’t seen her in many years, Mrs Pratt was an important part of my growing up years. She was always welcoming and so nice to me all the years Anton (Tom) and I grew up as friends. She always tried to feed us (mostly successfully) and wanted us to all have fun! She loved her children and her family. The last time I saw her was at Lynne’s funeral; her memory was slipping then, and I don’t think she knew me, but she was, as always, so sweet and gracious. Im so sorry for your loss; our parents ground us and give us unconditional love. Their loss leaves a true void. Hugs and love to you all!

This is about 5 or 6 years ago probably the last time we were at aunties house. I loved Grandme so very much she almost acted as a mother figure when me and my brother's mom passed. Grandme was so sweet and funny when she made smart comments. She really helped me and my brother push through some hard times and I remember when we called every sunday and get so excited to talk to her. I miss her so much but now I know she is in a better place with my mom. Grandme will be missed and never forgot, throwing her kissing. Love Michael.
