Alexander's Padre/madre
Alexander "Alex" Benjamin Young

14 de enero de 2000 - 5 de abril de 2026
Alexander Benjamin “Alex” Young, age 26, passed away unexpectedly on April 5, 2026.
His home was in Baltimore, Maryland.
Alex lived a life defined by curiosity, brilliance, and a deep passion for flight and space. After graduating high school, he answered a call to serve and left home at 18 to join the United States Navy. During his time in the Navy, Alex began to cultivate the technical skills and discipline that would shape the rest of his career.
Following his service, Alex was recruited by Northrop Grumman, where his exceptional abilities quickly set him apart. After achieving perfect scores on initial assessments—results so extraordinary they prompted retesting—he was invited to Baltimore for further in-person evaluation. Alex became the youngest member of his department, where he was entrusted with the critical work of testing and troubleshooting radar components for advanced systems. His work reflected not only his intellect, but also his dedication and precision.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Alex’s enthusiasm for aviation extended into every corner of his life. He maintained a server for a flight simulator community, connecting with others who shared his passion, and led a virtual fighter squadron that carried out regular missions. These communities were a source of joy, camaraderie, and creativity for him.
Alex was uniquely himself—quirky in the best way, wickedly smart, and effortlessly funny. He had a rare ability to make others laugh while also making them feel seen and valued. Beneath his sharp wit was an extraordinarily kind heart.
Recently, Alex achieved another milestone when an opinion piece he authored was published in the United States Naval Academy’s monthly publication, a reflection of his thoughtful perspective and enduring connection to the naval community.
Alex is survived by his parents, Benjamin and Mary Young; his brother, Andrew Young; and his aunts, uncles, and many cousins. We pray he is held in the arms of God and is reunited with and surrounded by his grandparents, Russell and Marjorie Young of Maryville, and his grandmother, Anna LaFata, along with the warm comfort of his beloved dog, Snickers.
Alex will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His light, humor, and brilliance leave a lasting imprint on the world.

I worked at Northrop with Alex for a few years before I left. We never really talked much to each other until the last year and a half I was there, as it didn't seem we had much in common. While waiting for a test to finish I was watching a YouTube video regarding a space flight simulator game. In all the time I had known him I had never seen him so excited to talk about something. He instantly pulled up a chair and we talked about everything from the art and design to everything else surrounding space, and from that day forward without skipping a beat Alex would make sure to come to my desk everyday, finding something new to talk about regarding our shared interests. We didn't always agree with things regarding our interests, and Alex always loved a good debate. We would spend hours going back and forth about how we were right and the other was wrong in good humor, always leaving with a smile and a wave goodbye. I remember the day he brought a polaroid printer to work and was excited to print pictures for everyone, and I still have the picture of my partner that he had printed out for me on the spot, excited to do something sentimental for me. When I had computer issues he would walk through every scenario he could think of to fix it, and took me by surprise when he brought me information that he had researched on his own time to help me fix it. He would aways invite me to do flight simulator things outside of work, but my apprehension to leave my bubble in life always led me say no thank you or next time; but he never relented, he always made sure to make others feel included if he felt they were lonely. When I was in a bad mood arriving at work which was often at the time, he would come up to me and I would want nothing but to isolate. It never took long for him to break that barrier, make me laugh and break my bad mood. He was truly a wonderful friend, a wonderful person, and will be sorely missed. I wish I had spent more time with you and hadn't lost contact after I left Northrop. We never talked about religion but it comforts me to learn now you believed in Christ, and I can't wait to debate you again about silly things again.

I knew Alex online as "Spaceman", and it didnt take us long to become close friends. With our shared love of flight, space, and general technology, we would message back and forth several times a day. Still today, i'll see something online and my first reaction is "I should send this to Alex". We would meet up weekly and show each-other movies, he'd often have really good movies i'd never heard of, but i'd always show him terrible B-movies that we would laugh or groan at. Alex would constantly ask me to come fly with him in the flight sims, and he'd constantly make missions that he thought i'd like. I remember one of the last things he asked me was if i could fly in his next mission. It's hard to express just how good of a friend Alex was, and how much he meant to me and many others online, but we are going to miss him so much.

¿Cuál es tu recuerdo favorito compartido con Alexander?
Lots of memories, but was always fun to have them in the restaurant to eat chicken and pie…. He loved them both!!! Also after bring in the Navy, he would raze me before the Army-Navy football game and when navy might happen to win one, he would call and remind me which branch was superior and not just in football!!😀😀

Dear Ben, Mary, and Andrew, It is impossible to truly put into words the depth of the sorrow we feel for your family. To lose someone so brilliant and vibrant far too soon is a tragedy that defies explanation. Something like this hurts the heart forever. Please continue to accept our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies. We are so incredibly grateful that Andy and Alex were friends. Through their bond, we caught a glimpse of the remarkable man Alex was. Seeing the outpouring of messages from so many people, from so many different walks of life, only confirms what we knew: Alex was a rare soul—brilliant of mind, kind of heart, and effortlessly funny. He clearly made a lasting impression on everyone he met. The tribute you gave Alex was absolutely wonderful and exactly what he deserved. It was moving to hear the "Alexisms" shared; they captured his spirit so perfectly and reminded us all of the joy he brought into the world. It was obvious how many people’s lives, from all parts of the world, he impacted. We also want to acknowledge the immense courage it took for him to join the Navy. That decision spoke volumes about his character and his willingness to serve something greater than himself. Though his time was far too short, he lived a full and meaningful life, touching more hearts than most do in many decades. Alex will be deeply missed by so many. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this unimaginably difficult time. We will continue to keep you in our prayers forevermore. With love and our most sincere condolences, Greg, Cathy, Andy, & Ryan Swanson

I'm still in shock. I knew Alex back in high school. as a friend and as a fellow member of the quiz bowl team. Even years later, my memories of Alex are incredibly clear. That's how memorable he was as a person. Alex was a joy to be around. He was so bright and passionate about what he loved, especially when it came to boats and aviation. I can still remember at graduation when it was announced that he was joining the navy, and I was amazed at how driven he was to pursue his dreams. I hear he had accomplished so much since then, and I'm sure if he wasn't taken from us so soon, he would have done so many more amazing things. I don't have too many pictures from high school, but by chance, I managed to find one Alex had sent, and it really captures so much of his fun and quirky personality. I can't imagine what you all are feeling right now. May Alex rest in peace. You have my deepest condolences, and I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I don't have the words to accurately describe the amount of positivity Alex brought into my life. A truly wonderful man which was always there for his friends when they needed him. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
