Sudha Parasuram Iyer, Dr.

Sudha Parasuram Iyer, Dr.

April 5th, 1966 - October 26th, 2022

Biography

This memorial is for every person that ever laughed with Sudha, every individual that loved her over her 56 years of life, and every single soul whom she had touched, loved, helped.  That, we believe, are hundreds spread across the world.

Born in Chittur Kerala, Sudha grew up in Mumbai.  At an age of 20, while most Indian middle-class families hesitated to send their daughters abroad for higher studies, she left alone to USA. 13 years, two Masters, a PhD, and hundreds of friends later, she returned to India, to settle down in Hyderabad.

Sudha’s was an exuberant life – with a heart that reached out to every being she met, mind that was constantly thirsty for knowledge and learning, an intellect that was sharp and wise, wit that would bring smiles to one and all, vibrancy to interact with people of all ages, a charming and loving personality that endeared everyone to her and a deep spirituality which was the space of her inner mind.

While the quantity of Sudha’s life was 56, hers was a life that was so alive, so vibrant, so packed with contributing to the lives of others, making the world a better and happier place for everyone she touched that in terms of quality, Sudha added 100 more years to her life.

Writing about Sudha’s life will take a book, not a page, but this space is for you to express what Sudha meant to you, for you to share the beautiful moments you had with her, and for all of us to celebrate this beautiful life.

Sudha – a warm, loving, exuberant, funny, compassionate, caring and incredibly kind soul. Sudha and I have been friends since 6th std. We have shared much laughter and some tears through the years and she has been a big part of some of the most important moments of my life. Words fail me as I try to express what she and our friendship mean to me. Be at peace my friend. I will miss you very dearly and I will always carry your smiling face in my heart.

I met Sudha during the SIES days when long-lasting friendships took root. Sudha and Abhay shared their birthday and perhaps that's what brought me closer to her. There are so many memories from Bombay, Baltimore and more. All I can say at this moment is "Only the good pass over when young". Sudha, you'll be forever with us.

In the year 2000 as a college pass out I joined as software engineer in Sudha Madam’s team, Sudha Madam was my guru introducing me to corporate world. She took care of all-round development of her team. One of the incident I will never forget and always thankful to her, I came from rural village background studied most of the education in telugu medium, was very poor in English reading/speaking/writing, any other boss would have told me that, improve your English communication skills. Sudha Madam didn’t do that, instead she herself took English lessons to some of us daily an hour. My deepest condolences and pray god to give full strength to all the people related to her including me to recover from the loss.

Long ago when I was a member of Sudha ma'am's content team at our e-learning startup -- those were very heady times indeed -- I once wrote a little verse to appreciate the work of a colleague and said it is my tribute to her. She said, "But I am still alive only." I had to check the dictionary. It is just a wrong notion that tributes are made only to people who are no more. Now that we are pouring in our tributes to Sudha ma'am here, I feel that it would also be a wrong notion to think that she is no more with us. Metaphysical misconceptions are not unlike linguistically wrong notions, people just assume something or some word to have rather different meaning and significance that what is actually the case. To clarify our language doubts, we usually turn to the dictionary. But life is much deeper, and to clarify our existential doubts we would have to perhaps turn to some books which are as deep as a dictionary is wide, such as the Upanishads. In Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, the sage Yajnavalkya says to his wife Maitreyi, "The earth is (like) honey to all beings, and all beings are (like) honey to earth." He goes on to say some more things in this vein, he also says, "Humanity is (like) honey to all beings, and all beings are (like) honey to humanity." Such deeper insights can be a little difficult to understand normally, but at times like these, they might bring sudden illumination. So long as the earth and humanity are there, Sudha ma’am’s spirit will also be there, giving us all the inspiration to work for the progress of humanity and the glory of this earth. That energy and exuberance will never die.

My dear friend Sudha was a phenomenon. It is very painful to use the past tense but the finality of never being able to see her smiling face and the warm hug has yet to sink in. A vibrant spiritual and a super human being ever willing to help others. From our childhood till the date she left for US we have met every single day and whenever she came down from Hyderabad. Her absence has left a huge void in the lives of her near and dear ones. May Sudha rest in peace and shine brightly in the better world too

I Cannot believe this Kala.. can someone pls tell it's not true. Was away in UK & France for a hectic series of dance progs. Didn't see any messages. Sudha one of my closest friends from SIES Bombay, was the most dynamic among us, her joie the vivre & laughter was spontaneous & infectious..We met up after donkeys years in H'bad, she insisted on taking my husband & me to her place. We picked up talking from where we last left..Years didn't matter. In Mumbai Sriram Subburaman, Prabha & me went down memory lane, about our numerous progs/events in college, elsewhere...We were the constant college competition team, literally on rampage collecting prizes. Thrilling moments. Navaratri Golu, temple festivals, birthday celebs.. How could you do this to us Sudha? Om satgati to the atma. Kala remember I'm just a call away.

I met Sudha professionally many years ago, and it was always a special interaction with her. Imagine my delight when we found out that we were Guru Bandhu, fellow initiates on the spiritual path.
Last month, my sister told me she'd run into Sudha in Coimbatore, had a long conversation, and how happy and healthy she was feeling. Just a few weeks later, this news comes.
I know she is the best possible hands in passing, but she will be missed.

She was and will continue to remain special for so so many people. Always ready to connect with all- specially the elderly. Always ready to help others and pray for others. Heartbreaking that we did not even get a chance to pray for our dearest Sudha Iyer. We were school friends and she’s the one who reminded me of so many old incidents as her memory was phenomenal. Will always always miss you Sudha. Rest in peace my beautiful friend.

Can't stop the tears. At 11am Google throws this memory and I smile thinking of Sudha and me... We both were deeply connected. We are cousins. she would always say..'pushpa, we are soul sisters' We have shared such times together since childhood.
At 11.30, Kala calls me and breaks the tragic news. I am shattered. But, I know there is a reason. She connected with me even in that last mile and wanted me to keep these beautiful memories alive. She is alive in me. And will always be. Love you loads Sudha.

Sudha was a unique person who could speak in everyone’s language, both figuratively and literally! Elders like my mother appreciated her spiritual and respectful nature. Techies like me were very impressed with her brilliance, scientific approach and articulation. Her witty and friendly nature made her “cool” to teenagers. Small kids loved her fun and engaging personality. A glance at her 5000-book collection summarizes her various facets.

She was my “big sister” who taught me the ropes when I initially moved to the US. She was always smiling and vibrant. Truly caring and very helpful. She was an inspiration to all of us and will be deeply missed. I will always treasure the great times we had in New Jersey.

When I met Dr Sudha for the first time in Quadratyx, I saw a special Grace in her eyes, that was Blissful. Its first time in my life I have ever seen a person who is so calm, absolutely composed, filled with Love and compassion. Just looking into her eyes makes one heal or atleast gain confidence to deal with. She spreads Love and Energy. People in this earthly world lost her, may be because she is required in Higher Universes in more dimensions.

Sudha was one of the most lively, kind, empathetic and beautiful person I had the fortune to meet and get to know even though only a little bit. The times we had actually met and talked in person were few and could be counted on one hand, but our friendship was one which sparked and persisted even with only brief meetings and interactions which were few and far between, spaced out by distance and time. Even so, Suda had touched my life. I will always remember her beautiful smile and energy. Rest easy, my friend

Whenever she was in Mumbai she would call out for a group meeting and that brought all of us together. Age did not matter for her. She just connected with people. I will miss you Sudha!

She was the first one in my family, whom I could call Akka. She was full of energy to speak, love and warmth to connect. Her style of saying “Hi”, can never be found anywhere else, for it was filled with joy and eagerness to meet.

Once you meet her, she’s a bundle of happiness, a solutions provider, a listener and a therapist. A doctorate by education, a leader by profession, a volunteer to the community and a Goddess sent servant to everyone who crossed her path. With her arms stretched and bear hug, she loved everyone unconditionally. She’s the best and sweetest person I could have ever met in this world, just like her name, Sudha. (Nectar).

Dear Sudha Akka, you will be missed by many and I am one among them. I remember our conversations about health, well being, Suryanamaskarams that you taught me, women empowerment, Young Indians activities and most of all, your ever smiling face and unending love towards everyone in the family.

Today, if I were to ask, why would Goddess be so quick in taking you to her place! all I thought was, Goddess herself couldn’t stay without you for less than a minute, thus she chose you. You have won Devi’s heart, reached safely to Her world, and here I am trying to be my best, realizing your absence.

You always said, “May Devi”s grace be with you”. Now, with your presence and Her grace together, I hope to see you someday and hug you tight, for one more time.

*******

This seem to be a dream, for never had I thought to write an eulogy for Sudha Akka, atleast not so soon. How I wish I could have hugged her for one last time in 2018 or how I wish I could have met her in 2022, for once. Just sometimes, we don’t realise the last time, thus the first impressions matter.

For someone like Sudha Akka, it was never about impressions, but was always about inspiration.

Dr.Mrs.Sudha Iyer, you are an inspiration to live for. Glad I know you and blessed to be your Bejawada Thalli.

This news has come as a thunderbolt. Sudha a vivacious, spirited, bold, erudite and caring young lady gone in her prime? I met Sudha as a fellow meditator of Isha Foundation and we did several programs together. I have met Ram, his mother and Shankar numerous times and I can’t imagine how the three of them will face the loss of their precious Sudha. Of course I know she has happily merged with her Shambo. Sadhguru’s blessings and grace will always be with all those Sudha has left behind on her eternal journey.
Dear Sudha I can’t believe that you could leave before me. Shambo.

Though Sudha and I have studied from the same institute till graduation, I really appreciated the qualities of Sudha through our school group recently. Full of exuberance towards life this memory bank embraced life with a broad smile. Proud of her son, Shankar she once posted him singing in his college function. When I messaged her to tell Shankar’s singing reminded me of SP Balasubramaniam, (SPB had just passed away!) Sudha was thrilled, SPB was Shankar’s hero!
We in our school group shall miss this lovely friend. Prayers for her soul to move on in peace
