Forever in Our Hearts
Scot Young was born Ronald Alexander William Wallace Young in Glasgow, Scotland in 1935. From a very early age he was never content to follow the path that was expected of him, leaving school and starting his own farming and scrap iron business when he was only 15 years old. His entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop here though - it carried him all the way to Toronto, Canada where at the age of just 19, he started a company that would grow to become a multinational industry leader.
As the founder of SYR, Scot Young was a pioneer in the cleaning industry. A true inventor at heart, Mr Young started his career in 1954 with one goal in mind: to revolutionise the professional cleaning market, and this is a mission he surely achieved. His tireless dedication to his work took him all around the world, from the UK to Canada, from cleaning floors himself for 74 cents an hour, to the honour of being awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation in 2002.
Scot Young will be remembered for his commitment not only to his job but to the people around him. Mr Young believed that ordinary people can achieve great success. He created a culture at SYR of teamwork and open communication, valuing the contributions of each person. His enduring legacy lives on in SYR’s success today, and he is leaving at the reins a new generation: his daughter, Lee Ann Young, SYR’s current Global CEO, 2 granddaughters and great grandchild, who carry on his passion and dedication to the business.

I met ascot many times over the years at the cleaning shows and the Federation of window cleaners shows had many chats with Scot ..I once went to head office to meet him many moons ago..such an inspiring man with tons of ideas and plans… you will be much missed within our industry Sir Scot you are a legend may you rest in peace now with the lovely Michael Wilde ….God Bless you ❤️ much love to your family..❤️ Terry Turbo GWR….❤️

Scot was truly one of a kind. An inventor, manufacturer, and a leader. While I worked at Procter & Gamble an alliance was formed in 2000 between P&G and SYR. It's still going strong today! A testament to his wisdom and his forward thinking. You will be missed but we will continue to build the legacy of SYR!

Mr Scot was an inspirational giant within the Cleaning Industry.
I was so lucky to have observed his teachings and indeed enjoyed his many welcomed interruptions when I was teaching as he shared wisdom knowledge and passion with students . On a personal note Mr Young took a keen interest in my career and was instrumental in providing advice which set me on the right path . Mr Young will be missed by many, however one thing is for sure Heaven will be spotless as he weaves his way around the edges the ledges, the highs the lows, the corners and the crevices , the nooks and the crannies' promoting the SYR Brand. Sadly we have lost a true legend, he was an inspiration to the cleaning industry and a true leader.
I have had the pleasure to work directly alongside Mr Young, he has left me with some invaluable memories.
I will always recall one meeting he called and he told us all the Robots were coming, they would take over and clean independently. This was around 10+ years ago. Everybody kind of looked at each other to think "what is he talking about", if only we shared the vision that Mr Young had because he was right.
My full condolences to the Young family, my thoughts are with you at this tragic time.

I met Scott approximately 9 years ago at his offices near Birmingham. He was a true entrepreneur and product innovator. Scott was kind enough to provide me with a caseload of his book "Crisis in Cleaning" which we still promote to this day. His legacy lives on.

Reading Scot Young's book, 'Crisis in Cleaning - time for a clean start' made a huge impact on me as a cleaning supervisor and ignited my passion to continually seek to find better, more effective ways of working. He has left a huge legacy in the cleaning industry - and my thoughts are with the Young family and everyone at SYR.

i did not get to meet Mr Young myself being relatively new to the SYR family, however i certainly felt his presence in every way. During my 5 years here i certainly know there is no such thing as just a mop & bucket, Mr. Young you have certainly revolutionised the world of cleaning & I'm sure the best is yet to come. My thoughts and love go out to Lee Ann & family at this sad time.
